Black & White OOTD!

Happy Sunday everyone!

And happy Mother's day to all the lovely Mams out there!

Today I wore my new printed trousers that I got in Vero Moda. They were reduced from €20 down to  €15! Not bad!! I'm in love with them - they're the comfiest things ever! It literally feels like I'm wearing pyjama bottoms. I had been looking for a nice pair of printed trousers for ages and I finally found the perfect pair! They're so soft and comfy, I wish I could wear them everyday!

White crop top - Penneys.... I've been loving crop tops lately! They're really stylish and easy to wear. I normally pair them with a high waisted skirt or jeans but I thought pairing it with the black string top underneath was nice as well. (It was too cold to wear it on it's own!) ;-)

Printed trousers - Vero Moda

Runners - Converse... They're just the classic white high tops. They're perfect for everyday wear!

Necklace - Mi Moneda... This is my all time favourite necklace!! It's interchangeable jewellery so you can switch up the coins and it looks like a completely different necklace! I bought it on lilywho.ie.

Watch - Fossil

Infinity bracelet - Penneys.... This was a new purchase! Would you believe it was only €1.50 from Penneys!!

Birthstone bracelet - Alex & Ani

Gold Rings - Topshop and H&M... I got the smaller ones in a set of 6 in Topshop and the 'wings one' was €4 from H&M.

Sunglasses - Topshop

I hope you all had a lovely Sunday!

March Favourites

Time for another favourites post! Yippee!! I'm so excited that it's nearly the first of April because that means we're getting closer and closer to Easter! I LOVE Easter! It's the only day of the year that it's acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast ;-)

Anyway, here are my favourites from this month:

My first favourites were both from the Soap and Glory mist you madly range. They both smell so divine! The Daily Soothe bath float is a gorgeous product. It lathers up well... it gives great bubbles making the perfect bath! It moisturises the skin and the scent is very relaxing too ;-) I've been wearing the body spray everyday this month! It's my favourite fragrance!

I've also been loving the Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo. It takes away the look of greasy hair and it smells amazing too! It leaves my hair feeling really refreshed.... it's so handy if you don't have time to wash your hair.
The next hair product I've been loving this month is the John Frieda Full Repair Oil Elixir. I picked up this product because I was looking for something to tame frizz. I had tried the frizz ease before but I didn't like it as I felt that it made my hair look kind of greasy. But this takes away the frizz and adds a nice shine to my hair without giving it a greasy look.

The next thing that I loved was Essie nail polish in 'Chinchilly'. I had been looking for a nice grey nail polish for ages but the ones that I tried were either too dark or too light. This one is the perfect shade! Just what I was looking for! I love all of the Essie nail polishes..... they're good quality and they're long lasting.
This Sephora lip gloss 'cute pink shimmery' is an oldie but a goodie! It's been buried at the bottom of my makeup collection for ages now but this month I rediscovered my love for it. It's a medium shade of pink with a hint of shimmer in it. I think it's a gorgeous Spring colour!
I've been filling in my brows with this Seventeen sculpting brow pencil. I love using my brow kit but this was a nice change. It's a lot quicker to use and the finished look is really nice. The only negative thing I will say is that the brush on the end isn't great.

And last but not least, here are my favourite scents of the month: the Home Sweet Home Yankee Candle and my Panda Pear Bath and Body Works hand sanitiser. These both smell so amazing!!  The candle smells like spices (yum!) and the hand sanitiser smells like pear (you can really tell that I've been taking this everywhere with me from the state of the sticker on the front! It looks like it's been through the mill!!)

What were your favourites this month? You can read February's favourites (here).

Blog Your Heart Out Tag!

I was recently tagged by Livia (All Beauty Confessions) to the 'Blog Your Heart Out' tag. Here are my answers!

1. Who/What encouraged you to start blogging?

I started this blog because I wanted to share my experiences and thoughts with others and I wanted to connect with like-minded people. I wanted to start a blog for ages but I never had the confidence to do it. I finally just went for it and now I don't know why I was so worried!

2. How did you choose which topics to blog about?

Well, I love all things fashion and beauty! So, I knew I had to incorporate those into my blog. I also wanted to include lifestyle posts as I think that adds a nice personal touch to any blog. I only write about things  that I love! I think it's very important to only write about things that you are passionate about!

3. What is something most people don't know about you?

There's actually not a lot that people don't know about me! I'm an open book kind of person! A lot of people don't know that I wear reading glasses because I don't usually tell people because it's not that interesting ;-)

4. What three words describe your style?

My everyday style would usually be casual, cosy and comfortable. I usually wear converse, skinny jeans, jumper/top, a scarf and simple accessories to school. But on the weekends I usually wear a casual dress/skirt.

5. What do you love to do when you are not blogging?

Shop!! I go shopping way too much! I may have a problem ;-). I also love reading. I usually read about three/four books a month! I'm also currently obsessed with watching Gossip Girl!

I hope you enjoyed reading my answers! Have a lovely evening!

Wise Words Wednesday

Helloo!

So, I'm starting a new little series here on clionahill.com. On Wednesdays I'll be sharing a nice, positive quote/ saying with you all. I can't get enough of quotes, I love them! I'm always sharing positive quotes with people on Twitter, Facebook etc.. So, I thought I'd share a bit of positivity here on my blog as well. After all, there can never be too much positivity in the world! :-)

This week's wise words are:

'One small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.'

I LIVE by this quote!! Every morning before I get out of bed, I think of one positive thought whether it be a nice memory or something I'm looking forward to etc... Sometimes I even make a mini list in my head of all of the things that could go right that day instead of thinking of what could go wrong. I find that this helps my anxiety a lot. So, if later on in the day I'm feeling anxious or panicky, I simply stop thinking about everything except for that one positive thought and how I felt as I was thinking of that.

I hope you liked my first Wise Words Wednesday post. I wish you all a positive day!

My New Favourite| Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask

Hi everyone!

Today, I wanted to share my new favourite face mask with you. It's the Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask. It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Sanctuary Spa products! Some would say I have a slight obsession ;-). You can read my post about my favourite products (here). There's nothing more I love than finding a new gem in their range. And, what a gem I have to show you today! It's my new favourite skincare product.

I recently had a bad breakout and I was on the hunt for a deep cleansing mask. I was delighted to find this little beaut as it worked wonders for my skin!

Here's my thoughts on it:

Packaging: The packaging is nice and simple, and easy to open. It's also very compact so, it doesn't take up too much space in my bathroom cabinet. (Handy!) It would also be good for travelling with if you are looking for something small to take with you. It lasted me two weeks and I got three uses out of it.

Texture/ Consistency:  I love the consistency of this! It's thick and creamy, making it easy to apply. It also feels really smooth on the skin. It reminds me of wet clay. It took me back to my Primary school days when we used to make clay sculptures ;-).

Smell: It's naturally fragranced with plant extracts and essential oils so, it doesn't really have a smell. I usually like my face masks to smell fruity and sweet but it was refreshing to have a natural scent for a change.

Application: The thick, creamy consistency made it very easy to apply. I massaged a thin layer over my face (a little goes a long way with this) and it warmed up instantly. The heat felt so nice on my skin and it was very relaxing! It would be a lovely mask to use in the winter ;-). I left it on for five minutes as it suggested and I could feel it working. I love using a mask that feels like it's actually doing something! I was also impressed with how quick and easy it was to wash off!

How well it worked: I was very happy with the results of this mask. It left my combination skin looking much more healthier! It also helped clear up my breakout and left my skin feeling very smooth.

Overall, I'm really happy with this face mask! I'll definitely be repurchasing this and I'd also like to try some of their other face masks.

Anyone else like the Sanctuary Spa face masks?

Fashion Haul : Summer Holiday Goodies

During the week I went on a spending splurge.... and picked up some bits for my holiday to Portugal in May.

First off, I went to Penneys! The first thing that I needed to get were bikinis. I was sifting through my summer box to see what I had and I noticed that all of my bikinis have prints on them. And while they're nice, I'm just a bit sick of them. So I decided to pick up some simple, plain ones. I got the same bikini in two different colours: black and coral. The top is a bandeau (which is my favourite style) and the strap can be worn three different ways.

Next, I picked up these beauts! You can never have too many pairs of sandals when on holidays ;-) The colour of these are gorgeous and I love the flower details. Simple but pretty! They're really comfortable as well.

I'm so boring when it comes to sunglasses! I never seem to be brave enough to try something fun or different. I usually stick to buying black oversized glasses. So, this summer I'm going to try to come out of my comfort zone and try different shapes. I thought these two would be easy to start off with as they're not too different but I'm still stepping out of my comfort zone a little. I couldn't decide which pair to get so, I got both as they're very different from each other and they were so cheap. It would've almost been silly not to buy both! ;-) I love the shape of the black glasses. I didn't think they would look flattering on but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them on. The round shaped glasses are very on trend at the moment. For €2, you really can't go wrong with these!

I bought this cardigan more so for Ireland than Portugal. I thought the colour was nice to brighten up dreary days and it's so cosy! But it would be handy for the plane or at night time if it gets a bit chilly.

I thought this would be really handy to throw over my bikini at the pool. I think the white lace is really elegant looking. And it was cheap as chips too!

And last but not least I picked up this gorgeous mint skirt from H&M. I'm loving skater skirts at the moment. I think they're so pretty and easy to wear. When I saw the colour of this, I fell in love with it. I think this will look really nice paired with a simple white tee and a nice pair of sandals for a daytime look and for night time you could pair it with a black top and a pair of wedges.

I hope you enjoyed my picks! Which was your favourite? I can't wait to wear all of them in the lovely sunshine!

Yummy Mint Chocolate Cupcakes!

Cupcakes are happiness in a paper case! Am I right? For my latest baking endeavour, I decided to make something that combines two things that I really love, chocolate and mint. If you love mint aero or just mint in general then you'll love these! Seriously, they are a little piece of heaven! ;-) I was inspired to make these when I saw lots of mint recipes popping up on my Pinterest news feed as it was Paddy's weekend. So I followed Nigella's simple recipe to make these yummy treats. They are so easy to make and they taste delicious. They were light and moist and they weren't overbearingly sweet. I was very impressed with how they turned out so, I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

Ingredients:

Cupcakes:
225g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
225g caster sugar
4 teaspoons cocoa powder
225g butter
1 teaspoon peppermint essence
4 eggs
chocolate chips

Icing:
115g butter
225g icing sugar
green food colouring
1 teaspoon peppermint essence
mint aero
flake bar/ chocolate chips/sprinkles

To make these I just did these 6 simple steps:

Sieved the flour, baking powder and cocoa powder.

Beat the butter and sugar in a separate bowl. Beat the eggs in one at a time. I added the sieved flour mixture gradually.

I then, added peppermint essence and chocolate chips and stirred them in using a wooden spoon.

I baked them for about 30 mins at 160 degrees C.

Icing:

For the icing, I simply, beat the icing sugar and butter together and added peppermint essence and green food colouring.

For the decorations, I just popped some mint aero balls and crumpled flake on top.

Have you tried making these before? Are you a fan of mint?

I hope you enjoyed this post. I know, my mouth is certainly watering after writing this ;-) I wish I had some more but sadly they're all gone :-(

Have a lovely evening!

Outfit Of The Day | A Chilled St Patrick's Day

Yesterday I had a lovely, relaxing bank holiday Monday. It was of course Paddy's Day, but instead of heading into the manic city centre, my Mam and I spent the day together and just took some time to have a chill day. It's really nice to be able to have an extra day in the weekend to take some time off and just relax. It also means that it's a short week too! Yay! :-)

In the morning, we headed out to the shops. We're going on holidays in May so we needed to get some summery clothes. We also needed to stock up on bikinis and flip flops/sandals. For some reason, they always seem to go out of stock really quickly. Especially the ones in Penneys because they're so cheap after all!

In the afternoon we brought our dog, Piper for a lovely stroll at Malahide Castle. It's gorgeous out there! The castle and the grounds are beautiful! Piper loves going for a walk there - she loves sniffing everything and meeting lots of other dogs. She gets so much attention whenever we bring her here for a walk. Everyone loves her, they love how fluffy she is! ;-) She kept rubbing her paws on the grass. She's never done that before. It was really funny to watch!

We met my sister, brother-in-law and my niece for dinner. It was Elsie's first St Patrick's Day and she wore a leprechaun babygro! It was so cuuute!! She loves watching the people around her and she was smiling at the waiter. I think it's so nice to see how babies just make people instantly smile. It's really sweet! :-)

I had fish and chips for my dinner. My favourite!! :-) It was a really nice meal. When we got home we tucked into the chocolate cupcakes that I made on Sunday. They were delicious! ;-)

I love this skirt, it's simple and girly. Not to mention the floral lace detail on it is just gorgeous! It's high waist so, it's great to wear with crop tops. I'm just wearing this grey and black top tucked into it. I think that's a nice look too. It's still very chilly so I haven't quite ditched the tights just yet. In fact, you don't really get to ditch the tights at all in Ireland because it's usually too cold for bare legs ;-) I wore my leather jacket with a fur collar to keep me snug and my taupe ankle boots which have been featured in an outfit post on my blog before. They have a lovely studded detail on the heel and they are so comfy to walk in as well. To brighten up the outfit, I wore my red printed scarf. For my accessories, I went very simple with the beaded bracelet that a friend bought for me.

What I wore:

Jacket // Zara
Scarf // A-wear
Top // Bershka
Skirt // Asos
Boots // Penneys (Primark)

And here's a photo of my beautiful niece, Elsie in her leprechaun babygro and my lovely sister :-)

I hope you all had a lovely St patrick's weekend!

Hair Of The Day | Pinned Up Plaits

Funnily enough, I created this hairstyle when I was tidying my bedroom. I had braided two plaits in my hair that day and they kept falling into my face and annoying me. I guess I wasn't in a plait mood that day ;-) But I was sick of throwing my hair up in a ponytail or a bun. So, to solve this problem I just decided to pin the plaits up randomly. I was quite happy with the finished result and I thought that it would be nice to incorporate it into my daily hairstyles. Change is good! Am I right? ;-)

It didn't take me long at all to do. 5 minutes max! All I did was plait both sides of my hair and I just did a knot. Like tying a shoelace! ;-) And then I just pinned the ends up at random places. It's that simple! It's very different to my usual everyday hairstyles but I think it looks really cool, if I do say so myself ;-)

I hope you enjoyed this post! It was a bit different from my usual posts but I quite liked doing it. I might do more hairstyle posts in the future.

What are your 'go to' hairstyles?

Say my name, Say my name!

There's nothing more I love than personalised jewellery. I think it's nice to be able to wear something that is very personal to me and has a meaning behind it. I have so many cute little pieces that are very special to me. At the moment this dainty gold 'Cliona' necklace is my fave! I've just been loving delicate gold necklaces at the moment. They're simple but they also look stylish and compliment an outfit well. I'm going through a major obsession with layering up gold necklaces at the moment. I absolutely love this look!

I fell in love with these name necklaces after I had seen 'Carrie Bradhshaw' wearing one. She made these a wardrobe must have!! They're hugely on trend at the moment. Celebs such as Kim K, Lea Michele, Lauren Conrad and many others have been spotted wearing them. It had been on my wish list for ages! I finally got it for christmas from my Granddad and I haven't stopped wearing it since I got it.

It makes me feel special and reminds me to be the best possible version of myself and nobody else. I, like a lot of girls struggle with self-confidence sometimes so, wearing this necklace reminds me that I am special and I should just be ME.

"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is your than you." - Dr. Seuss

I thought I'd throw that lovely Dr. Seuss quote in because it seemed fitting to the subject ;-)

What do you think of these name necklaces? And do you have any jewellery that means something to you?

Some Questions and Answers!

I was tagged by the lovely Georgina (Marfmallow) to this little Q&A post. I love reading these type of posts partly because I'm a bit nosy! ;-) But also because I think they are a great way to get to know bloggers better.

My Current Skincare Products

My skincare routine is my absolute favourite beauty regime! I find it really relaxing - massaging gorgeous creams on to my face and lathering my face in gorgeous smelling products. I love trying  out new products and reading anything about skincare. I have combination skin. I also suffer with eczema, so my skin can get quite irritated easily. Here are the products that are currently working for my skin:

Cleanser

Simple Kind To Skin Vital Vitamin foaming cleanser
This cleanser is great, it leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed. It claims that the vitamins in it help to restore, soften and smooth the skin. I started using it a few weeks ago and I have noticed a big difference since I started using it. My skin feels a lot softer and smoother and it's in a much better condition. I'll definitely be repurchasing this in the future.

Garnier Simply Essentials cleansing lotion
I use this in the evening to remove my makeup. I just pop a small bit on to a cotton wool pad and it removes all of my makeup (even waterproof eye makeup!) without drying my skin. It doesn't have a strong smell and it's suitable for sensitive skin too. I'm also a fan of the Fresh Essentials version of this. It has grape extract in it, so it smells divine.

Toner

Boots Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner
I bought this toner because I wanted to introduce more natural products into my skincare routine as they're a lot better for the skin. Most natural products can be quite expensive but this one isn't too bad at €6.29. It's supposed to brighten your skin and it's safe to say that it has done a marvellous job at brightening my skin. It smells absolutely amazing! I would definitely recommend it if your on the hunt for a good toner.

Exfoliator

Sanctuary Spa Radiance Exfoliator
I use this exfoliator once a week to give my skin a much needed deep clean. It has a gorgeous fruity scent to it, that makes it smell good enough to eat ;-). It refines and evens my skin tone and after the first use it gave my skin a gorgeous glow. I love all Sanctuary Spa products.... they are so luxurious and they always leave my skin feeling beautiful!

Spot Control

Simple Rapid Action Spot Zapper
I use this spot control at night time if I have any nasty spots that I need to get rid of. It's great for preventing spots too! If you notice a spot appearing, you can just pop some of this on to it and in the morning it will have completely disappeared. If you already have a spot it takes a bit longer to clear up. It usually takes more than one application to clear it up. The chamomile in it gives it a really nice smell. It's a handy size for popping it into your handbag and it's suitable for sensitive skin too.

Moisturiser

Johnson's Daily Essentials Nourishing 24 Hour Day Cream
This moisturiser is by far my favourite! It has a lovely, rich creamy texture but it doesn't feel too thick on the skin. It's made with shea butter so it smells divine! ( I love anything that's made with shea butter! It's my favourite scent!) It also has an SPF of 15. I almost never buy moisturisers without SPF. I love the packaging! The glass container makes it look very pleasing to the eye on my bathroom shelf. It also lasts a long time which is really convenient. I love it!!

What are your favourite skincare products?

Love,
Cliona x
