My Messy Bun Tips

I love wearing my hair in a messy bun! It's easy and quick to do but recently I was getting quite bored with wearing the same old messy bun all the time so, to shake things up a bit I decided to add this side plait to it. I've been obsessed with plaits lately so it seemed like a nice simple way to add some detail to the bun. I actually love how it turned out!
People often find it quite hard to do a messy bun so, I thought I'd share a few of my tips that I find helpful when creating a messy bun.

My messy bun tips:

  • Avoid doing messy buns on freshly washed hair. They look much better on day 1/2 old hair!
  • When gathering the hair into a ponytail use your fingers instead of a brush. This will create a much messier look.
  • Dry shampoo/ texturising spray will be a life saver when doing this hairstyle, trust me! With a messy bun you want a lot of texture, so either of these will add a nice bit of volume to your hair.
  • If your doing a high messy bun, flip your head over to gather the hair on to the top of your head. If you have a lot of hair like me then this will make it so much easier for you!
  • Use bobby pins to secure any loose bits of hair around the bun and pull out a few strands of hair at the front so it doesn't look too neat.
  • Finish the hair style by using a bit of hairspray. This will keep it in place and get rid of any fly aways.

My biggest piece of advice would be: Don't stress about trying to make it look perfect! Just play around with it until your happy with how it looks. And remember it doesn't have to be perfect! After all it's called a messy bun for a reason ;-)

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and found some of these tips helpful.

Have a great weekend!

Love,
