My First Mac Haul

I ventured over to the Mac counters for the first
time and here's the low-down of my experience
and what goodies I came away with.............

My first Mac haul
Mac Modesty lipstick

.......

If you read my Mac wish list post then you'll know that before a couple of weeks ago I had never bought a Mac product! Most of you will probably find that shocking but over the course of my time blogging I've come across a few beauty bloggers who have yet to try Mac or only got into Mac because of the blogging community {*cough* enablers *cough*}. I don't know why I'm only getting around to trying their products now but it's probably because I never go to brown Thomas but when I do the Nars counter always calls me; It's a love affair that I can't seem to end but watch out Nars because I think Mac has just pipped you to the post....

The Experience: As I said in my July highlights post when I first went over to the lipstick counter I encountered a rude woman - I don't know if she was just tired or having a bad day but there was no need to be so rude. Anyway I decided to not let it ruin my first Mac experience and so I headed over to the eyeshadow counter where I was just going to pick things out for myself. A lovely man called John came over and he was very helpful. He explained how the pro palettes work and he was advising me on which shades would be perfect for day and night wear. Ho told me the best thing to do was fill it up mostly with everyday wearable shades and then to add a few statement shades so I can create a smoky or statement look for evening wear. He also then showed me how to apply the three shades that I bought and he created a gorgeous natural golden smoky eye which is perfect for everyday wear.   If you're headed to the Mac counter in Brown Thomas on Grafton Street then make sure to ask for John - friendliest person who really knows his stuff about makeup! It was probably the best customer service I've ever received!

What I Bought: Now onto the bit you all came here for.... The Haul. The first thing I got was a lipstick. How could I go into Mac and NOT buy a lipstick? That's just ridiculous *wink wink* There were so many beautiful shades but as a nude lip lover I knew I wanted a nude shade that would be suitable for all occasions as well as everyday wear. I had a fun time swatching them all {and I mean all, I got a few stares as I walked out with my hand covered in lipstick swatches. Ha ha!} , but in the end I went for 'Modesty'. It has a cremesheen finish and is described as a "muted neutral pink". It's really creamy and it gives a little shine to the lips which I love as I'm not a huge fan of matte finishes. This shade is a lot deeper and more on the mauve side than I'm used to with my lipstick shades but I love it - It's really different from anything I own. Another thing I noticed with this lipstick is that it lasts a lot longer than a high street lipstick - I wasn't expecting that as, after all it is a nude and it's a cremesheen  finish. I've fallen in love with these lipsticks and I'll be asking my sister to pick up a few when she goes to America next month.

Urban decay's eyeshadows are brilliant and they're still up their in my top favourites but oh my, there's nothing like a Mac eyeshadow. Hellooo pigmentation *insert clapping hands emoji* I went for three shadows to start my palette off and I already have a long wish list for my birthday and christmas of what shadows I want to get. I went for 'Amber Lights', 'Swiss Chocolate' and 'Texture'. 'Amber Lights' is a gorgeous golden coppery bronze shade that really makes my blue eyes pop! 'Swiss Chocolate' is a deep brown shade that has a matte finish; It's my favourite crease shade. And as for 'Texture', this is probably my favourite of the bunch {yes, even beating 'Amber Lights'!}. It's a warm medium brown shade with an orangey undertone and it's a velvet finish with a tiny bit of shimmer running through it. I love blending this all over my lid and into the crease before I apply Amber Lights; They go really well together but I also like to wear it on it's own and it kinda reminds of 'Riff' from Urban Decay.

What was your first Mac product?
And what is your favourite Mac product? Suggestions welcome ;-)

Love,
Cliona xx

  2. Wohooo! No longer a Mac virgin! To be honest, I started buying MAC products last year. It's not like I have a huge amount of things, I just have four lipsticks - and two of them were bought with my own money, the other two were presents! Anyway, you got yourself a lovely haul there! The lipstick looks so pretty, I'm in love. Thank you for your small review on MAC eyeshadows! Might as well give them a try!! xx
