My Favourite Outfits Of 2015

Monday, 28 December 2015

After a lovely few days of relaxing and spending time with my family, I'm back to business today, not only with the blog but my study too *insert crying emoji* I wish I could just lounge around in my jammies watching movies and eating chocolate every day ;-) But the festivities aren't quite over yet as we still have New Years to look forward to! With only three days left of 2015, I thought I'd wrap up the year with a couple of special 'end of year' blog posts.

There'll be lots more New Year's themed posts coming your way but for now, I'm doing a little recap of my outfits from this year. One of my goals last year was to do more outfit posts on the blog and I definitely succeeded. I also accomplished my goal of improving my photography - I still have a long way to go with it but for now I'm pretty happy.

There was a whole load of outfit posts and a lot of new clothes were purchased but my favourite of them all was definitely that fur coatigan. The cosiest thing ever! I never stop wearing it!

I hope you enjoyed my outfit posts this year and there'll be lots more to come in 2016 - Sorry in advance bank balance.........

Which outfit was your favourite?

The Christmas Makeup Menu

Tuesday, 22 December 2015

With only 3 more sleeps to Christmas Day, it's time to start planning my makeup menu - because it's just as important as the dinner menu, don't ya know ;-) My makeup is always very simple and I really don't put any effort into it at all when I'm going to school. I usually only take my time applying makeup when I'm going out and that's not that often, so this Christmas I'm going to take a good hour (maybe even more!) out of the day to apply my makeup. I'm going all out with contour, highlight, winged liner and red lips!

For my base, I'll be using a mixture of two products: A bit of the YSL Touche Eclat Foundation mixed with the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. The only reason I'm mixing them together is because the YSL foundation is a tad too dark for me but paired with Nars tinted moisturiser it creates the perfect shade. I've dug up two old concealer favourites for the day: L'oreal Lumi Magique concealer pen and the good ol' Collection Lasting Perfection. The L'oreal concealer is amazing for brightening under my eyes and do I even need to discuss the Collection one? I'm sure you all know how amazing it is *insert heart eye emoji*

For contour, I'll be using The Body Shop Honey Bronzer. I like a subtle contour so this is perfect for just that! My favourite blush for the last few months has been Mac 'Warm Soul'. It's a gorgeous dusty rose shade with golden shimmer which gives the most gorgeous glow to the skin.

For brows, I'll be using my Soap & Glory Brow Archery. This is my favourite brow product and I kid you not when I say that I haven't used any other brow products since I discovered it. Another favourite of mine is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara and their Master kajal kohl liner for tightlining. Seeing as it's Christmas I decided to go for winged liner. I only learned how to do it properly recently so I can't wait to sport it again! I'll be using the Maybelline Master Ink liquid liner in black gold. This eyeliner is perfect for the festive season as it contains gold shimmer! What's more Christmassy than sparkly winged liner?!

And finally for the lips I'll be sproting the classic red lip with my Rimmel Provocalips in 'kiss me you fool' with a red catrice lip liner.

Now bring on the festivities........

What makeup will you be wearing on Christmas Day?

The Cosy Scarf

Saturday, 19 December 2015

I picked up this scarf in a Zara sale a few years ago and it's one of my favourite winter pieces. It's incredibly thick and soft, and it's quite oversized so you can wrap it around a few times for extra coziness. It's a great one for the extremely cold weather and I wish I'd had it when I went to New York a few years ago as it was freezing! It's also two-tone in colour - cream on one side and a light pink on the other.

It was freezing the day I shot these photos so I dug out every cosy item I could find in my wardrobe and I ended up with the cosiest outfit I've worn all winter - all I need now is a bit of snow to go with my winter warmers ;-) Besides the cosy scarf I also chose to wear my blue Zara jumper. The material of this is really soft and it's quite heavy/chunky and it keeps me snug as bug! Another cosy item are the boots. I bought them in Penneys recently and they were a great find as they were only €21, they have fur on the inside and they're oh-so comfy. I've hardly taken them off since I bought them!

Tonight's plan is to have a cosy Christmas evening. As I'm typing this I have cinnamon candles lit, copper fairy lights twinkling and Elf switched on in the background. I'm about to start wrapping some presents, then I think I'll have a christmassy lush bath and watch another christmas movie with some chocolate - sure why not? 'Tis the festive season after all *wink wink*

What are your plans for this evening?

Happy Blogmas!

5 Instagram accounts to follow

2015 has seen my Instagram obsession grow; I'm hooked! Scrolling through my Instagram feed is the first thing I do when I wake up and it's the last thing I do before I go to bed. Seeing as it's #FollowFriday, and my Instagram addiction doesn't seem to be going away in 2016, I thought I'd put together a little list of a few of my favourite accounts and share my favourite pictures from their account. So, pop the kettle on and have a scroll through their feeds, and see their gorgeous photography!

P.S. I just realised that I completely forgot about last night's blog post as I was out Christmas shopping so there'll be two on Saturday instead - it'll be a little weekend treat ;-) But for now, it's just a short and sweet post from me because the Christmas shopping has officially beaten me *insert all the tired emojis*

1. Mollie Manning // Blog

I started following Mollie this year and I instantly fell in love with her white, minimalist theme. She's able to create beautiful flat-lays with a simple, white background and they're incredibly eye-catching. She also has some lovely lifestyle photos and her dog is the cutest thing! She also has an amazing blog with lots of beauty posts and she's even enabled me to buy a few products!

2. Phases Of Robyn // Blog

Robyn is the one to follow if you're after some fashion inspiration. Her photos are always really bright and they stand out when I'm scrolling through my newsfeed. I love her style, her outfits are always well put together and I love that she uses a white background - it really compliments her style well! I also love her writing style over on her blog, she always grabs my attention and I feel like it's very unique - I've never come across anything similar on other blogs.

3. Penneys To Prada // Blog

Emer is a fellow Irish blogger and she'll definitely be one to watch in 2016! She's so lovely and down-to-earth on her Snapchat. I love her everyday, casual style and she's the best at finding bargain beauty products that are amazing! She's also the queen of Penneys because she always has amazing hauls! You should definitely give her a follow and add her on Snapchat too {penneystoprada} - she's my favourite on there!

These are just 3 of my favourites at the moment but I love lots of other accounts too! I might put  together a 'blogs I love' tab or something like that on my blog for the new year? Don't forget to check these ladies out and give them a little follow!

What are your favourite Instagram accounts?

Products I've Used Up Recently

Empties blog post

It's been a while since I've gathered up a bunch of empty products and chatted about them on my blog, so today's post I thought I'd go old-school and bring back a favourite of mine: the empties post...

I've been a big fan of the Garnier Ultimate Blends range for over a year now and they're no strangers to my blog. They have an impressive variety of products within the range to suit every hair type. Recently I've been loving the 'strength restorer' range as it's brilliant for damaged hair like mine. I've noticed a big improvement since incorporating this into my haircare routine along with the conditioner and the 1-minute treatment, my hair feels and looks a lot healthier. It's also considerably softer and a lot less frizzy than before. It lathers well, has a subtle sweet scent and is paraben free. I couldn't recommend this enough, especially for the price!

I have tons of foundations in my collection, but not many drugstore brands make it to my favourites list. However I really like this one and it's up there with my high-end favourites. It's a very light foundation with light to medium coverage so it's perfect for everyday wear. It gives a healthy/dewy finish to the skin and it covers my spots pretty well (I still need to use a concealer to completely cover them and my dark circles if I was going out or shooting outfits, but for school I feel confident enough just wearing this on its own).

I always use this up to the last morsel as it's just amazing! It's great for under-eye circles as well as spots. It has great coverage, it doesn't crease or look cakey and it doesn't cling to my dry patches. Oh, and it's cheap as chips too!

I wasn't really a fan of this mascara to be honest. It has a good dark black colour but it didn't add much volume or length to my lashes. It gives a very natural look and slightly lengthens them but personally I prefer long fluttery lashes, so this just didn't do it for me. It wasn't clumpy and it didn't flake throughout the day so that was good. All in all, it was a very underwhelming product and not something I would repurchase again. There are loads of other mascaras on the market that are just as affordable and do a much better job {Maybelline Lash Sensational, I'm lookin' at you!}

Products I've used up

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water:
This is the best makeup remover I've ever come across. It instantly removes makeup with minimal effort and isn't harsh on the skin. With other makeup removers I've used in the past I found them to be harsh and drying on my skin. This one is brilliant if you have sensitive skin and I even find it cooling and soothing. Next time it's on offer in Boots you should definitely give it a try!

Eucerin Replenishing Face Cream:
This is another skincare favourite of mine and one that I always feature on my blog. It has a gorgeous rich creamy texture that feels luxurious as well as hydrating the skin. It contains 5% urea which is a hydrating ingredient and I'd go as far as saying that it's just as good as hyaluronic acid! I never get any dry patches or dehydrated lines whenever I use this, which is a miracle for my skin because it's usually as dry as the Shahra desert ;-) My skin is also sensitive and this doesn't irritate it at all. I'd highly recommend this if you have dry skin!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation:
This is easily my favourite foundation ever! It has a medium but buildable coverage with a satin finish that provides the skin with a healthy glow. It covers all my imperfections and spots without looking heavy or cakey. It also doesn't accentuate any dry patches and it lasts the whole day. It's on the pricier side but totally worth it in my opinion! I always get lots of compliments about my skin when I wear this, but I can assure you it's all down to the foundation ;-)

Garnier Ultimate Blends Conditioner 'The Sleek Restorer':
This is pretty much the same as the shampoo I spoke about earlier except this one is aimed at dry, frizzy hair. Much like the other one, I noticed a difference with my hair when I started using it. It felt a lot softer, looked sleeker and it was less frizzy. I love the coconut smell of this one and just like the shampoo it's also paraben free. This range will forever be my favourite!

What products have you finished recently?

The Best Christmas Decorations In Dublin

Tuesday, 15 December 2015

With only ten days to the most wonderful day of the year, it's time for me to start planning what I'm going to wear. Getting ready is my favourite part of the day; the presents have been opened, some chocolate has been eaten and I'm excitedly waiting for the dinner and to see the rest of my family. I never usually think about my outfit in advance as I'm too busy rushing around buying and wrapping last minute presents {hands up if you're in the 'last-minute club' *wink wink*} but this year I'd like to get something new to wear. I'm struggling to find something nice at the moment so if I can't find anything then this look will be my back up. I wore it on my birthday and it's still one of my favourite outfits so I thought I'd shoot it in one of my favourite locations: Powerscourt Town Centre.

In a recent outfit post, I said that Stephen's Green Shopping Centre had the best decorations, but I completely forgot how amazing these ones are. And in fact, I think Powerscourt has pipped Stephen's Green to the post!

2015 was the year I fell in love with River Island. I had never shopped in there before but I've been loving their stock this year. Both the top and the skirt are from RI and I think the quality of them are amazing for the price. This top is perfect for Christmas day as it's slouchy and slightly oversized so it feels comfy and will hide a food baby if needs be ;-) I also love the cut-out shoulders - it's a nice way to show a bit of skin without showing too much {although it's not great winter wear as it's revealing my pasty white shoulders! I need a bit of sun! Ha!} I love the bright colour of the skirt, it adds a bit of colour to brighten up my dark winter wardrobe. I also love the gold zip detail and the large pockets - they both add a bit of texture to the skirt and make it stand out more. I also added a statement necklace to the outfit because I thought it complimented the high neck of the jumper very well, and it wouldn't be Christmas without a bit of bling!

Where are has the best decorations in your area?
And what will you be wearing on Christmas day?

Christmas Instagram Post Ideas

Monday, 14 December 2015

Need a little Instagram inspiration for
the festive season? I've got you covered...

The days are short and dark, and in fact, you could blink and miss the entire day! The winter period is cosy and magical but it's a nightmare for bloggers and Instagrammers because the lighting is terrible. There isn't much daylight as it is, without the weather in Ireland being grey and miserable all the time, so whenever there's a hint of sun I grab all my camera equipment and create about ten different flat-lays ;-) I was chatting about this over on my Twitter and it seems I'm not the only one struggling. The dull weather has also had an effect on my creativity and so, therefore I'm lacking my daily inspiration. Normally my head is bursting with ideas but over the last few months, I've been finding it difficult to come up with fresh Instagram content.

The Christmas period is my favourite time to take photos; From the twinkling lights, the cosy candles, the sparkly clothes to the mouthwatering food, there's so much inspiration around. This month I've finally gotten my Instagram mojo back! I've gone for a lifestyle theme rather than fashion and beauty this month because I feel that it's good to step out of my comfort zone sometimes. I will go back to the usual beauty/fashion flat-lays in January but for now, I'm enjoying my Christmas lifestyle theme. Whilst I was bulk photographing over the weekend I thought it would be a good idea to put together a little diary of ideas for anyone who wants to Christmas-ify their Instagram *insert winking emoji*

1. Snap a photo of your favourite decorations in your area { I love all the decorations on Grafton Street and in Stephen's Green shopping centre}

2. Your favourite Christmas movies

3. A cosy movie night with your Christmas PJs

4. A festive read

5. Your Christmas bedding {If you're a Christmas nut like me and actually have Christmas bedding ;-)}

6. Your Christmas jumper or alternatively a flat-lay of your Christmas day outfit

7.  Christmas baking { I baked shortbread and you can read the recipe in this post}

8. Your Christmas wrapping

What Christmassy Instagram pictures have you been posting?

Christmas Shortbread

Sunday, 13 December 2015

Light some candles, get the Buble Christmas
album out and preheat your ovens for today's
Christmas baking post......

You all know how much I love to bake, but there's just something that makes baking at this time of year more special. There's a copious amount of different festive recipes out there so trying to decide what to bake over the festive season is quite a difficult task. For my first bake of Blogmas, I thought I'd start off with a simple classic recipe that everyone loves: shortbread biscuits.

I found a great recipe on the Food Network website and I was delighted with how they turned out. They were light, buttery and crumbly; everything a shortbread biscuit should be! I chose a few different shapes from the classic star to cute little Christmas trees and a few snowflakes thrown in for good measure.

I didn't adapt the recipe at all so I'll just leave you to have a read of it for yourself (here). And if you do make them, I hope you like them as I much as I do! I know I've already eaten way too many..... ah well, 'tis the season and all that jazz ;-)

What will you be baking over the festive period?

Happy Blogmas!

Cosy Coatigan

Saturday, 12 December 2015

It feels icy cold these days and it's certainly a lot colder than last winter - could that mean we might finally get some snow? *crosses fingers* If the snow does turn up I'm well and truly prepared with this amazing coatigan from River Island.

I love everything about it, but the deal breaker for me was the fur that runs through the middle and right up to the hood. The fur is the softest thing I've ever felt and it takes all my strength to resist falling asleep whenever I wear it - it's just too cosy!

I also love the geometric print and the rust brown tones. It's definitely a statement piece and the focus of any outfit, so it doesn't need too much styled with it. I have a size 8 and it's quite big on me so I think I should've gone for a 6. Anyway, I just pop a belt on with it and I'm good to go.

My favourite way to style it is, with this black lace top, cream jeans and a pair of Chelsea boots. It also looks great with an A-line skirt and a roll neck jumper. It's quite a heavy material so I find it warm enough to just wear a long sleeve top or a jumper underneath, and I don't need another coat over it.

I've been wearing it loads recently and it's definitely become one of my favourite winter pieces!

What's the cosiest piece you have in your wardrobe?

The Video: Christmas Decor

Friday, 11 December 2015

Yep, that's right, I said video! I've wanted to make a collage-style video for a long time but I just never really had any motivation to actually do it. But I decided there was no better time than the festive season and I'm feeling very inspired with my blog ever since I started blogmas. I really enjoyed filming it and it's definitely something I'd like to do more in 2016. I'd love to know your thoughts about the video - I'm very nervous about it *hides away in the corner*

Anyway, onto the Christmas decor! We got our tree in Ikea this year and I'm in love with it. It's the perfect height and it's full of branches - no bald spots in sight. My Mam wants to buy a fake tree for next year, but I'm quite apprehensive about it. I just love real trees and that smell.... yum! As for the decorations, we don't really have a theme. We've collected different baubles and ornaments over the years and I think it creates a nice story. We have a few vintage decorations like the two Santa Claus candles that we've had in our family for years. The rest of our decor includes lots of fairy lights to make the place cosy.

I also Christmas-ified my bedroom with some new Christmassy sheets. I got these ones in Penneys and they're nice and simple. They're grey with little skis and mountains with snow on it - so cute! There's a hint of red on the sheets so to bring that colour out I added a tartan throw, which is also from Penneys. There both incredibly soft and they don't feel like there from Penneys at all, they feel much more expensive. Penneys have absolutely killed it with both their clothes and homeware stock this year, let's hope it continues in 2016!

Did you like my festive video?
And would you like to see more video content in 2016?

Winter Handbag Essentials

Winter handbag essentials

The last time I did a 'what's in my bag' style post was when I first started blogging back in 2014 (read it here). Seeing as 2016 is slowly (or should I say quickly. This year has flown by!) creeping up on us, I thought it was about time I did an updated post about all the bits that have been accumulating in the depths of my bag recently.

A little chat about the bag: I received this gorgeous suede fringe backpack from my cousin for my birthday. I fell head over heels in love with it the minute I saw it. It's from Parfois and the quality is amazing! Parfois always have really good quality bags, but this feels like it's a designer. The suede material is incredibly soft and the attention to detail is amazing. The straps have an Aztec print and the reddish, brown tones add a lovely splash of colour. It also has stitching in the shape of a flower on the front. It's very sturdy and spacious - I can fit my (rather large) makeup bag, my DSLR, notebooks and loads of other stuff into it, which is essential for us bloggers ;-) I also love the fringe details at the sides and the drawstring strap. It's a firm favourite in my collection now and a lot of my other bags won't be seeing much daylight in the future.....

The contents: Besides the usual necessities like my wallet, earphones, glasses, notebooks etc. there's not too much in my bag. I don't tend to keep anything unnecessary in it and I like to clear it out every now and then to keep things neat and tidy.

I try to keep the beauty products to a minimum amount which is quite a hard task {beauty lovers out there will feel my pain} Lip balm is an essential for me throughout the year but during the winter, I throw a thicker one in. The one I'm loving at the moment is The Body Shop shea lip butter. It's very moisturising and doesn't leave a sticky feeling on the lips. Another lip product favourite of mine is the Nars matte lip pencil in 'sex machine'. This is a gorgeous pink mauve shade and the formula is so soft and buttery. A hand cream is also a winter essential to treat dry, cracked hands. My current favourite is The Body Shop Honeymania hand cream which has a lightweight formula but still provides good hydration.  Another hand care item that I always carry around is a hand sanitizer and at the moment I'm using Bath & Body Works 'candy cane bliss' - a gorgeous minty scent that smells just like candy canes! You can't get more Christmassy than that!

My favourite scent at the moment is Bath & Body Works 'winter wonderland' - it has a lovely light sweet fragrance. I've also been loving the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer which has been a life saver for under eye circles. December has been a busy month and we're not even half-way through it, so a good under-eye concealer is essential - no one will ever know what's underneath all the layers of concealer... shhh ;-)

The last two things aren't beauty related but are still equally as important: hand warmers for those chilly days and my 50mm lens for all the Christmas outfit posts I've been shooting - more of those coming soon......

What are your winter handbag essentials?

The Christmas Tag!

Christmas photography

1. What is your favourite Christmas movie?
Ooh that's a tough one! I love all the Christmas movies! My favourites are probably Home Alone 1 & 2. They're both incredibly funny and the second one is even better as it's set in New York. I love seeing all of the famous attractions decorated beautifully. Other favourites include The Santa Clause and The Grinch - they're classics and you just can't beat them!

2. Do you open your Christmas presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
We've always opened ours on Christmas morning. I think it's more magical to wait for the morning as it's something to look forward to and the anticipation builds up which makes it even more exciting. I was definitely an impatient child, though, and I would have happily opened them on Christmas Eve *insert monkey with his hands over his eyes emoji*

3. What's your favourite Christmas memory?
When I was a child my Mam used to make us sit on the stairs before we went into the sitting room, and she used to always say that she had to check to make sure Santa wasn't still in there. She also used to put dirt on the fireplace and move some of the coals to make it look like Santa had been. It was so magical and I'll always remember it!

4. Favourite festive food?
Terry's chocolate orange and trifle! Most people look forward to the dinner, but I'm a dessert kinda gal ;-)

5. Favourite Christmas gift?
A few years ago my Grandad gave me a gold necklace with my name on it and I'll always treasure that.

6. Favourite Christmas scent?
Real Christmas trees and salted caramel.... mmm.... droool

7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
Ever since I was a child we've always watched Home Alone in our pjs with hot chocolate and lots of treats. This year I think we're going to go to a hotel for tea and cake and then we might go for a walk in the park - time to make some new traditions!

8. Have you ever had a white Christmas?
Back in 2010, we had, what we called 'the big snow' (dramatic, I know!). It started snowing a few weeks before Christmas and it was non-stop. It was magical and cosy for the first few days but then it became a nightmare. The whole country came to a standstill! It was still snowing on Christmas day and I remember seeing huge icicles hanging off roofs.

9. Where would be your dream place to visit at Christmas?
In 2012, my family and I went to New York on the 28th December and we were there for New Year's Eve. That was the most amazing trip I've ever been on and I would definitely go back. There's no better place to be at Christmas time, to be honest. The lights, the decorations, it's just breathtaking!

10. What's the best part about Christmas for you?
I love the atmosphere. It's so magical, bright and there's a sense of community. For me I find it takes away my stress and anxiety. I also love spending time with my family and just doing nothing with them.

I hope this post got you into the festive spirit!
And if you've done this tag let me know - I'd love to read your answers!

A Festive Haul

Last night was an exciting one as we got a Christmas tree and had a lovely evening decorating the house. In the midst of the excitement I completely forgot to publish my blogmas post, so I thought I'd do two today to make up for it. Aren't you lucky? Two rambles from me in one day ;-)

With the stress of my exams I just hadn't been in the festive spirit at all but recently I've been getting Christmassy as I've bought quite a few festive things. I've bought everything from books to clothes, to homeware.

As I said in this post, I've never owned a Christmas jumper so this year I really wanted to buy one. I found it very hard to get a nice one as most of them are a bit 'over the top', if you know what I mean. I just wanted a simple, understated one. I looked everywhere from in-store to online and I was about to give up until I saw a lovely one on New Look's website. It was white and it had a picture of three little robins and it had 'seasons greetings' written on it. It was just what I was looking for. I decided to have a look for it in the shops instead of ordering it but when I went in I saw this burgundy one with a sparkly reindeer on it. I fell in love with it and completely forgot about the other one. I can't wait to show you a better picture of it in an upcoming outfit post......

I also picked up two pairs of pyjama bottoms in New Look. When I went to Penneys all the small sizes of every single set of pyjamas were gone! It was crazy! So I left the shop feeling very disappointed that I wouldn't have any Christmas pyjamas this year, but when I was in New Look I spotted these two and they weren't too expensive either - Woohoo!

Next up was a festive read. Last year I re-read Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Miracle. This year I wanted something different and I was delighted when I spotted My True Love Gave To Me. There aren't many young adult Christmas novels around and I feel that the Christmas novels on the market are just a tad too old for me. This one is perfect, though - there are 12 different stories and I'm excited to see how the authors integrated the stories together. Let It Snow had three stories in it and they were effectively linked together.

I also bought a few homeware bits from Penneys to transform my room into a Christmas wonderland ;-) I'll be talking about all the things I bought in a decor post that will be coming to a computer screen near you very soon....

And last but not least, I picked up some gift tags, ribbon and wrapping paper. Wrapping presents is my favourite thing to do at Christmas time and I can't wait until all my presents have been bought so I can start wrapping them *insert all the excited emojis* I'm thinking of doing a Christmas wrapping post? What do you think? Is that something you'd like to see?

I can't wait to show you my room when it's all decorated! Stay tuned......

Have you bought anything festive recently?

Happy Blogmas!
