Hit, miss & maybe products

| Hit, Miss & Maybe Products! |

We all have our holy grail products, the ones we use every day and recommend to everyone but we also encounter products that just aren't up our street, whether they're wrong for our skin type or the product just isn't good. Let's find out what products have made it to my hit, miss, and maybe list recently.

Hits:
First up on my hit list is the Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour and Primer in Peony Pop, a soft everyday nude pink shade. As the name suggests there's a built-in primer that provides the lipstick with a creamy formula that glides onto the lips effortlessly. Although it's matte it doesn't feel at all matte meaning it's comfortable to wear but it's still long lasting.

The Too Faced Sweet Peach palette has been my most-used palette in recent weeks. The pink shades are surprisingly wearable and they're a great way to brighten up my makeup for the Summer months. The quality of the Too Faced eyeshadows is up there with some of my favourite eyeshadow formulations.

I'm a blush enthusiast, not a day goes by where I don't wear it, and recently I've been loving my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Diffused Heat. The coral pink hue has been perfect for the Summer months and I just love the ethereal formula of their blushers.

Misses:
A foundation that I didn't get on too well with was the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation. Unfortunately, this foundation just didn't sit well on my skin, it looked slightly cakey in areas, and it oxidized really badly after 2-3 hours wear so by the end of the day it looked completely orange.

My first impressions of the Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel were good as it was an effective cleanser that made my skin feel soft after each use. However, after a while, it broke me out really badly and I ended up with the worst breakout I've ever had. I know lots of people that love this cleanser but sadly it just didn't suit my skin.

I was recently sent a sample of Glamglow Gravity Mud Firming Treatment Mask*. It's a peel off mask that's supposed to leave skin feeling firmer and lifted, but unfortunately, it was a little harsh on my sensitive skin. After three minutes I had to remove it because it started to aggravate my skin so I didn't get to see if there were any results.

Maybes:
I've tried five products from The Ordinary so far and four of those products have been a success! The High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is an excellent product that works well but the reason why it's on my maybe list is down to the packaging. It has a gloopy serum-like texture but because the formula is thicker than a serum the pipette bottle just doesn't work properly. I don't know if I got a dud but my pipette doesn't suck up the product so I have to pour the product onto my hand. But then the product gathers at the top of the bottle and whenever I put the pipette back into the bottle the product explodes everywhere. As you can probably tell it's a pain to use so I find myself not reaching for this primer as it's just not worth the effort.

Another Rimmel foundation that I wasn't wowed by was the Wake Me Up foundation. This foundation looked a lot nicer on my skin than the Match Perfection, it has a dewy finish which was nice and it lasted for most of the day. It's a nice foundation but for me, there are better budget foundations that look nicer on my skin like Bourjois Healthy Mix or L'Oreal True Match.

What products have you been loving and not loving recently?

Cliona xx

  1. All of your hits are on my wish list haha! I agree with the ordinary primer packaging, it would be so much better in a tube because I've used so much of mine and because the pipettes doesn't work I can't actually get the remaining third out!
