My first Glossier haul

What I Bought From Glossier!

Glossier has finally launched their Irish website so I'm now able to purchase the products I've been coveting for over a year! Yay! I'm sure you've all heard of the brand before but their approach to beauty is right up my street as they embrace dewy, healthy skin and minimal makeup. I was so excited to share what I bought with you but I haven't gotten a chance to try any of the products (except for one!) so this post will just be an initial 'what I bought' and I'll share my full thoughts on the products in a future post.

Three New Haircare Favourites

Monday, 28 May 2018

Three New Haircare Favourites!

I've always been lazy with my haircare routine, as long as it was washed, brushed, a quick blast of the blow-dryer and maybe the odd hair mask then I was happy enough. However, recently I felt the urge to up my haircare game and I wanted to develop a proper styling routine, so I treated myself to some new haircare products from Umberto Giannini.

An Easy Statement Makeup Look

An Easy Statement Makeup Look!

You all know by now that my favourite type of makeup looks are quick and easy ones. And seeing as it's the weekend I thought I'd share one of my favourite quick and easy statement makeup looks that's perfect for the weekend!

1) The Base:
My hormonal acne usually flares up when my anxiety is bad and I'm currently suffering from the worst acne I've ever had *insert crying emoji* Normally I wear light to medium bases regardless of whether I have a breakout or not but for a look like this I prefer to wear a fuller coverage base. I opted for the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation as it feels lightweight on the skin but I can build up the coverage and it's one of the best foundations in my collection for smoothing over any texture from my acne.

2) The Complexion:
I always wear subtle bronzers and blushers because I think the 'barely-there' look suits me. I applied the Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 Palette. This adds a subtle luminous bronzey glow to the skin and it's a great shade for fair skin.

Another complexion favourite that I used in this makeup routine was the Nars Luster Blush. The peachy apricot shade adds a subtle wash of colour and radiance to the cheeks.

My highlighter of choice was the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand and this has become my favourite highlighter in recent months. The product melts into the skin, providing a luminous dewy glow that looks natural and makes my complexion look healthy.

Kat Von D Hexagram review

3) The Eyes:
For my statement eyeshadow looks, I usually opt for sparkly and shimmery offerings and for this look I was inspired by one of Estée Lalonde's recent videos where Katie Jane Hughes did her makeup. In the video, she used a bronze cream eyeshadow all over the lid and applied a silver glittery shadow on the centre of the lid. To create my version of the look, I applied the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On And On Bronze all over the lid, followed by the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Diamond Dust on the centre of the lids. And lastly, I used a little bit of Mac Cork eyeshadow in the outer corners because I felt that the Maybelline eyeshadow needed a matte shadow to help blend it out a bit better.

4) The Lips:
The easiest way to add a statement to any makeup look is by adding a bright, colourful lipstick shade and I opted for a new favourite, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Hexagram*. The rich red hue complements the silver glitter and whilst the formula of the lipstick is matte, it still feels comfortable on the lips, it applies smoothly, without tugging the lips and it doesn't transfer as much as some of my other coloured lipsticks.

Books I've Read Recently

books I've read recently

The Books I've Read Recently!

It's no secret that reading is one of my favourite hobbies, however, I don't know what's happened to my reading mojo this year. I read two books in January and then after that, I ended up in a reading slump so I haven't read as much as I'd like at this stage of the year. I had my Goodreads reading goal set to 25 but I've lowered it to 20 so I'm not pressured and overwhelmed to finish the challenge. And it seems to have worked because I'm slowly but surely starting to fall back in love with reading. But here's a look at the books that I've read so far this year and hopefully I'll get to read more soon!

Summer Lipsticks & Nail Polishes

Summer lipsticks & nail polishes

Summer Lipsticks & Nail Polishes!

I'm officially in Summer mode after the mini heatwave over the bank holiday weekend recently and I'm gathering my shorts, denim skirts, straw hats as well as some colourful makeup and nail polish favourites for the imminent arrival of Summer.

Lipsticks:
I usually opt for a classic nude lipstick hue on an everyday basis and one of my favourite hydrating options is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 70. This will be the perfect effortless lipstick to apply on those hot sunny days when I don't want to worry about lipstick smudging and I can just quickly reapply it with a little mirror or even just the camera on my phone if I'm carrying a small bag.

Pink is another lipstick hue I'm fond of sporting during the sunny weather in Summer. Recently, I wore my Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Torres Del Paine for the first time in awhile and I forgot how pretty it looks on the lips! Normally the little ring of colour on the end of the pencils are a good depiction of what the colour of the lipstick looks like but in this case, it's a little misleading. The colour on the packaging looks like a peachy, apricot shade but in the bullet and when swatched it looks like a rosy pink shade. However, on my lips I can see the peachiness they were trying to convey but it's definitely more of a pink coral than an apricot shade though.

Another pink favourite is the Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour and Primer in Peony Pop. A nude pink shade with a comfortable, creamy matte formula - I love the formula of this lipstick so much and I definitely need to add more shades to my collection (they always reduce this lipstick range on Feel Unique so I'll have to keep an eye on their website!).

I'm pretty sure that my last lipstick favourite features in nearly every Spring/Summer makeup roundup post I write but it's just the perfect shade for the two warmer seasons of the year. I am of course talking about Mac Tropic Tonic, a vivid coral with red and orange undertones and a long-lasting matte formula.

Summer lipsticks swatches

Nails:
Essie is my favourite nail polish brand as they last really well on my nails, the application is easy and they never look streaky. My favourite shade for Summer is Tart Deco, a bright orange-toned coral that complements a glowing Summer complexion and a floaty dress.

If I want to wear something more neutral during the warmer months then I'll usually opt for Muchi, Muchi which is a pale pink hue. Due to it being such a light colour, it needs three coats rather than just two but it's definitely worth the extra effort as the colour is light and airy - it would be a beautiful shade for a bridal party!

My last nail polish top pick for Summer is Peach Daiquiri, a hot pink shade with strong red undertones. In bright light, it looks pinker and in low light, it leans more on the red side - It's certainly a statement shade!

The recent mini-heatwave has got me thinking about my Summer wardrobe and makeup bag and I've decided to add five heatwave essentials to my everyday makeup stash. Three Clinique Moisture Surge Favourites

clinique moisture surge review

3 Clinique Moisture Surge Favourites!

As someone with combination to dry skin who also has sensitive skin and gets hormonal breakouts you can probably imagine how awkward it is to find products that will cater to all of my skin's concerns. Enter the Clinique Moisture Surge range, a skincare line that helps keep my skin hydrated without making it greasy or clogging up my pores. The range is also 100% fragrance-free so it's kind to my sensitive skin too and doesn't aggravate my breakouts.

My love affair with this range started with the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief Moisturiser when I was 18 and the products have been staples in my routine ever since. The product has a lightweight, cooling gel consistency which soothes and calms the skin after cleansing, and it's the perfect pre-makeup base due to the light and non-greasy formula.

Clinique moisture surge review

The next product I tried from the range was the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. The consistency of this is quite different to the moisturiser as it has a thicker, creamier formula. I love overnight masks as they're more moisturising than a regular moisturiser and you don't have to wait 10-15 minutes and then wipe the excess product off like a traditional mask, I can just pop this on and jump straight into bed! Every morning after applying this, I wake up to soft, plump skin and any dry flaky patches are gone.

The most recent product I've tried from the range is the Hydrating Supercharge Concentrate Serum and whether you have dry, dehydrated skin or even a normal or oily skin type this serum will be ideal for you because it's like giving the skin a drink - it provides instant hydration and helps maintain the skin's hydration. It's one of my favourite hydrating serums that I've tried!

A Skincare Roundup

Skincare collection

A Skincare Roundup!

In the last few months, I've been carving out more time in the evenings for skincare pamper sessions. There's nothing better than slathering my skin with nourishing oils and indulgent face masks after a long, tiring day. Recently I've welcomed some new additions to my skincare stash and I've rediscovered my love for some old favourites that I hadn't used in a while so without further ado here's my current skincare roundup.

Cleanser:
I always double cleanse in the evenings if I wore makeup and SPF that day and recently I've been using the Superfacialist by Úna Brennan Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Oil as my first cleanse. I don't know about the brightening claim as I think only serums/masks/treatments etc are going to provide those type of results, however, it's a great cleansing oil that removes makeup well and leaves my skin feeling nourished.

For my morning cleanser and my second cleanser in the evenings, I introduced the Dr Roebuck's Cleanse Nourishing Creme Cleanser* into my routine a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! It has a milky consistency, and it feels cooling and nourishing on the skin so it's ideal for all skin types, especially sensitive and dry skin.

Serum:
For my morning serum, I've been reaching for the Dr Roebuck's Ultimate Hydrating Serum*. This serum has not only been providing my skin with the hydrating properties you'd expect, but it's also been providing my complexion with a healthy glow.

Dr Roebuck's review

Moisturiser:
Lately, I've been using a light moisturiser in the mornings and a rich moisturiser in the evening. I have combination skin that leans more towards the dry side so it's important for me to include rich moisturisers and nourishing oils into my routine. However, I find a light moisturiser is better for the morning as it's quicker to use and doesn't interfere with makeup application. At the moment, I'm using Bioderma Sensibio Light which is a simple fuss-free moisturiser that provides a good amount of hydration to the skin, especially considering it's a light formula, and makeup applies nicely on top of it.

In the evenings, I'm using Dr Roebuck's Pure moisturiser* which is a rich, nourishing cream. My forehead is the area where I suffer most from dry skin, it constantly feels tight and it's often flaky in texture so this moisturiser has been a life-saver! Since introducing this into my routine my skin has been less flaky and tight, and instead, my skin has been feeling hydrated and plump.

Facial Oil:
My dry skin loves oils so I try to always have one in my routine. I'm currently using the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil which is definitely my favourite oil that I've tried. I usually mix this into a moisturiser and pairing it with the Dr Roebuck's Pure moisturiser creates the perfect duo for dry skin!

Masks:
I use lots of different masks depending on what my skin needs but one of my most-used masks at the moment is Dr Roebuck's Polish 2-in-1 Mask & Scrub*. This is an exfoliating mask that contains tiny exfoliating beads to gently smooth the skin and buff any dry flaky patches away. This mask is so gentle on my sensitive skin and I notice an improvement in my skin's texture anytime I use it.

I also like to have a hydrating mask on the go at all times and I'm currently loving the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. As the name suggests, it's a moisturising mask that can be worn overnight and in the morning I wake up to plump, soft skin.

Five New Favourites

New beauty products on trial

Five New Favourites!

As a beauty lover, I'm always trying new products and recently I've discovered five new favourites. From a sweet-smelling cleanser to a natural, effortless highlighter to an everyday Spring palette, here are a few new beauty products I've been loving recently!

The Burt's Bees Orange Essence facial cleanser was in my stocking on Christmas morning and I've been loving it throughout January. It's a gel cleanser that turns into an oily consistency when massaged onto wet skin. I tend to use it as my first cleanse because as a second cleanse it can leave a little oily residue behind. The gentle hydrating cleanser has been a welcomed addition to my winter skincare routine as it leaves my skin feeling soft.

I picked up the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder last month as it was reduced to €2.50 in Boots! This powder has been on my wishlist for some time as I've heard nothing but rave reviews of it so it was great to nab it a bargain price! It isn't detectable at all on the skin, it's great for setting the oily parts of my skin {my chin and around the nose} and it doesn't cling to any dry patches. However, it's not the best powder I've used because it doesn't provide me with that airbrushed, flawless finish that other powders in my collection provide, but for €2.50, it's an excellent powder!

I'm all about glowy, healthy skin and my latest highlighter discovery has been helping me achieve my glowing skin dreams. The Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Light Wand is a liquid highlighter that provides a natural dewy finish - My skin has never looked so healthy and radiant before!

Essence review

For eyeshadow, I've been testing the new Essence Wood You Love Me palette {€4.40}*. Essence always has the prettiest limited edition packaging and I think the design on this palette has been their best yet - It's getting me excited for Spring & Easter! Inside the pretty packaging, there are five shimmer shadows including a dark brown, a medium brown, an icy white highlight shade, an iridescent pale green and a forest green. The formula of the shadows is lovely, they feel quite silky and the two brown shades blended seamlessly. The two green shades were best packed onto the lid with my fingers, and there was a bit of fallout from the darker green so I just applied my foundation after doing my eye makeup when using that shade.

My two favourite looks using the palette were the light brown in the crease, the dark brown on the outer corners with the highlight shade on the lids, and the second look was my favourite; The light brown in the crease, the dark brown in the outer corner with the dark and light green on the lid - I got complimented on my eye makeup when I wore this look and it's made me want to experiment with some different colours! I've also been using the Smokey Eyes Duo brush* from the new collection. The fluffy round end is good for blending the dark brown in the outer corners of my eyes and I've been using the curved end for applying the highlight shade to the brow bone and inner corners of my eyes.

I mentioned the Mac Lunar New Year lipstick in the shade Good Health in my January favourites post and I thought I'd feature it again because it's become a staple in my makeup bag in recent weeks. The peachy nude shade with deep rosy pink undertones is a wearable shade that complements the green and brown hues of the palette. Mac's satin lipsticks are one of my favourite formulas due to the longer staying power than the cremesheen formula but they're more nourishing than the matte lipsticks.

Have you discovered any new products recently?

Cliona xx

January's Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites

January favourites
Bobbi Brown lipstick

January's Beauty & Lifestyle Favourites!

Another month has come to an end and despite the dreariness associated with January, I had a great beauty month! January is always a bit miserable but it's usually a great month in terms of beauty products for me because I like save some of the new products that I receive at Christmas to try out during the month. And today's post is all about my top picks from the month!

New Lipstick Finds:
I received the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in Angel for Christmas and I'm so glad I waited to use it until mid-January. It was a treat to open up the little box one dreary day last month and I've been using it a lot recently. I've been reaching for creamy, nourishing lipstick formulas as opposed to mattes recently and this formula feels smooth and hydrating on the lips and provides a satin finish. I've seen the shade Angel been described as a peachy shade but it looks more like a rosy pink shade on my skin tone.

Mac released their Lunar New Year collection during the month and I picked up one of the lipsticks. I opted for the shade Good Health from the satin range {one of my favourite Mac formulas!} and I'd describe it as a peachy nude shade with deep rosy undertones. But the real reason for the purchase was the packaging, of course! *insert winking emoji* I just couldn't resist the beautiful ombre packaging and Mac always have incredible limited edition packaging!

A Dry Skin Saviour:
The winter months always take a toll on my skin, leaving it in a dry and flaky condition so last month I reached for the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask to rescue my parched skin. It feels lightweight and doesn't clog up my pores. I have combination skin that leans a little more on the dry side but I do have minor oily areas on my nose and chin so it can be hard to find a product that will deeply nourish the dry parts of my face without clogging up my pores or causing breakouts. However, I've never had any trouble with the Moisture Surge range!

Perky Pink Blushers:
I change what blush I use quite frequently but my two most-used blushes last month were the Sleek Rose Gold blush as well as Fenty Beauty Match Stix in Yacht Life. They're both similar pink shades with golden shimmer but the former is a powder formula and the latter is a cream offering.

Evening Entertainment:
Cosy evenings in watching an abundance of tv shows and films, or devouring a good book with a cuppa and a few biscuits are some of my favourite ways to pass the cold, dark January nights. And this month, I discovered some new evening entertainment. Firstly, I went to the cinema to see The Greatest Showman and I'm not normally into musicals {except Disney films!}, however, I thought TGS was one of the best films I've seen in recent years!

A recent tv series discovery is The Crown and although I only started watching it in the last week of Jan, it's made it to my favourites list because it is incredible - The cast is amazing, the music complements the show perfectly, it's filmed beautifully and I don't know much about the royals or their history so it's very interesting to learn about it.

What were your January favourites?

Love,
Cliona xx

The Staples In My Makeup Bag

Wednesday, 31 January 2018

Staples in my makeup bag

The Staples In My Makeup Bag!

New products go in and out of my makeup bag each day but there are a few staples that I can't bear to be without. The easy, effortless products to use are the ones that stand the test of time and remain in my makeup bag for the longest time. Here's a roundup of my everyday staples!

Primer:
For many years I skipped using a primer because I didn't think they did much for my skin. However, since incorporating primers into my routine, my base makeup has never looked better. I have a combination skin type with hormonal acne and my skin often gets quite dry so I like to reach for hydrating primers that make my skin smooth. The Too Faced Hangover Primer is my primer of choice as the lightweight hydrating cream adds hydration without making my skin greasy.

The all-in-one palette:
Multi-purpose palettes are becoming increasingly popular and I'm so happy to see more brands launching these types of palettes. They usually come with a number of complexion powders in them and some brands even have palettes with both complexion powders and a few eyeshadows.

I bought my first all-in-one palette, the Pippa Palette by Blank Canvas, around 3 years ago and it's still a firm favourite in my makeup collection. The pretty pink palette houses a blush, bronzer, highlighter and six neutral matte eyeshadows. It contains a lot of products I need to complete my everyday makeup look and it's handy to have everything in the one palette as I don't have to rummage through my drawers at 7 in the morning for various products.

Another multi-purpose palette that's always in my makeup bag is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3. This stunning rose gold palette houses six complexion powders including two setting powders, a highlighter, a bronzer and two blushes. The formula of Hourglass powders never fails to revive tired, dull looking skin with their radiant properties.

Cream eyeshadow:
Cream eyeshadows are another time-saving, effortless product to use on a daily basis. My favourite cream eyeshadow is the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes To Mesmerise in Jean which is a beautiful champagne hue. The texture of this is a lot creamier and you can tell it's more luxurious than some of my other budget cream eyeshadows.

Nude lip liner:
It's no secret that I don a nude lip on a daily basis and I can't go a day without lip liner. My favourites are Mac Soar, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk, L.O.V Cosmetics lip pencil in no.502* {review} and a new favourite that I've discovered is Mac Dervish. Soar and Pillow Talk are similar shades but I do prefer the CT formula a little bit more as it's slightly creamier and it lasts a little bit longer too. Dervish doesn't have as much pigmentation as the other two but it's perfect if you want to wear a lighter nude shade. Despite the L.O.V liner's budget price tag, it's actually the longest lasting liner out of the bunch.

What are your makeup bag staples?

Cliona xx

An Everyday Lip Combination

Sunday, 28 January 2018

an everyday lip combination

An Everyday Lip Combination!

My everyday makeup routine follows a similar pattern; Soft natural eyeshadow, luminous highlighted skin, a light foundation with my freckles peeping through and finally, a nude lip. I've tried lots of different lipstick formulas and various different shades but recently, I've found a new lip combination that's perfect for my everyday makeup look.

Most days lining my lips is an essential step in my routine, as I have relatively small lips and I think lipstick just looks a lot nicer on me when paired with a liner. My current favourite is Mac Dervish, a brownish nude shade, a 'my lips but better' kind of shade. I love the formula of Mac lip liners but one thing I've noticed with this particular shade is that it's not as smooth and creamy as some of the other shades. Nonetheless, it's a great shade, that's easy to wear and I find it lasts for a good five-six hours.

Secondly, I apply one of my all-time favourite nude lipsticks: Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil in Sex Machine, a pink-toned mauve nude. This shade was my first Nars lipstick so it'll always be a sentimental product in my collection. The velvet matte lip pencils are my favourite matte formula as they're non-drying.

And lastly, I apply my Luna by Lisa lip gloss in Sapphire on top for a glossy finish that gives my lips a juicy, luscious look. This particular shade is just a classic pinky nude hue that complements most nude lipsticks and the formula is incredible - Non-sticky and very pigmented!

Pairing these together gives an end result of plump, luscious looking lips and the combination is long-lasting. I find that the lip gloss fades after about 2 hours, especially if I've been eating or drinking. However, the lipstick and lip liner still looks perfect even after the lip gloss has completely worn down, and I usually get another three to four hours wear, depending on how often I'm eating/drinking each day.

What's your favourite everyday lipstick?

My 2018 Beauty Goals & Wish List

Wednesday, 24 January 2018

2018 beauty wish list

My 2018 Beauty Goals & Wish List!

Every year I set myself a couple of achievable goals and some of those goals are always beauty related. I was reading Kelsey's post and Anna's post about their beauty resolutions and their posts inspired me to share my beauty goals. I also thought I could share some of the brands/products I want to try this year as I did a similar post last year, so I decided to merge the two ideas together for today's post. Without further ado, here are my 2018 beauty goals and a look at my current wishlist!

Cream Products:
After trying the Fenty Beauty Match Stix, I've fallen in love with cream blush formulas so this year I want to try more cream blush, bronzer and highlighter products. Top of my wishlist is the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand and as I'm writing this, I'm thinking of buying it so I may already own it by the time you see this post. I also have my eye on the Charlotte Tilbury Contour Wand but it looks a little bit daunting so I'm going to trial a few more cream formulas before I splurge on it.

Another cream product that I'd like to try this year is the Hourglass Illume Sheer Colour Trio. This little palette houses a cream blush, bronzer and highlighter and it looks like it would be an amazing product for the Summer.

Glossier:
Speaking of cream formulas, Glossier has some great cream blush and highlighter options. I've been dying to try this brand for a couple of years now and sadly, we still can't get it in Ireland yet. You can use An Post AddressPal to ship the products here but it seems a little complicated but I'm definitely going to look into it because I'd love to try some Glossier products this year!

If I do end up making an order, I think I'll get the phase one set which contains the Milky Jelly cleanser, balm dot com and the priming moisturiser. I also like the sound of their new product, Solution as well as boy brow and their famous cloud paints

Skincare:
Last year one of my goals was to invest more time and money into skincare. I wanted to learn more about my skin's needs and invest in good quality products. I did learn a little bit about my skin and what ingredients I should/shouldn't be using but I could definitely do better this year.

I've been researching masks a lot recently and at the moment I'm thinking of purchasing the Origins Original Skin retexturising maskGlow Recipe Watermelon mask, Farmacy Honey Potion and Kiehl's Turmeric & Cranberry Seed mask are also on my list to try!

I've wanted to try Drunk Elephant skincare products for a while - their packaging is dreamy! - and word on the street is they're coming to SpaceNK this year so hopefully, I'll be able to make an order!

Charlotte Tilbury:
Recently, I've been binge watching all of Charlotte Tilbury's youtube videos {how have I only just discovered her channel now?!} and her tutorials are incredible! What I love about her looks is that they're soft and easy to achieve. She creates all types of looks from everyday minimal makeup to more statement looks, but they're always simple to achieve.

Watching her videos has not only inspired me to create a few new makeup looks, but they've also made my wish list longer *insert the monkey with his hands over his mouth emoji* I'm currently lusting after another one of her Eyes To Mesmerise eyeshadows - I already have Jean but next on my list to try is Bette. I'd also love to try her Instant Look In A Palette as well as the Airbrush Flawless Finish powder.

Have you any beauty goals for this year?

And is there anything on your wish list at the moment?

Love,
Cliona xx
