Spring makeup menu blog post
Spring makeup look

Spring Makeup Menu!

Spring has finally sprung and this year it felt like we had a long wait for the season due to the unexpected snowfall! But now that the season has finally arrived, I'm looking forward to the brighter evenings, seeing a sea of cherry blossoms on the ground, waking up to the sounds of birds happily chirping away and of course, I'm most excited about switching up my makeup routine for the new season.

Base:
A good skincare routine prior to makeup application is the key to a good makeup day and my pre-makeup base of choice at the moment is the Bioderma Sensibio Light Soothing Cream. This lightweight moisturiser is a simple, fuss-free product and is formulated without fragrance so it's ideal for sensitive skin. The product provides my skin with the hydration it needs before makeup application without making it greasy.

I currently have a few foundations on rotation for Spring but one of my favourites is the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless FoundationI'd describe it as a high medium coverage foundation that can be built up to full coverage but for the look down below, I actually sheered it out a bit so it was more of a lighter medium coverage for Spring. It has a satin finish, it feels lightweight on the skin and smooths over any texture from breakouts and dry skin. I highly recommend this one!

My concealer pick will come as no surprise to most of you because I talk about it in nearly every blog post *insert laughing emoji* The Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer has been a firm favourite in my makeup collection for a few years now due to the lightweight, creamy formula that never looks cakey and that works well for both under the eyes and spots.

Profusion review
Spring makeup
Profusion eye & cheek palette

Complexion:
One of my favourite bronzers is the Too Faced Sun Bunny Bronzer and I've taken this out of my drawer again just in time for Spring as it's the perfect warm golden bronzer that provides my pale complexion with a subtle sunkissed look.

For blush, I've been using the blushers in the Profusion Eye & Cheek Palette*For the makeup look in this post, I used the shade Lush which is a subtle nude shade. The palette also contains a peachy pink hue, a bright barbie pink shade as well as a deeper plum-toned pink. The nude shade is a subtle neutral shade that adds the tiniest hint of colour so it's ideal for everyday wear! The other three blush shades are brighter and more pigmented so the palette has something that caters to everyone's blush preferences.

I've been loving cream highlighters recently and one of my favourites at the moment is the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand. It provides a beautiful champagne glow to the skin and I can already tell that it's going to be a Spring/Summer essential!

When I'm not in the mood for a cream/liquid highlighter then I'll reach for one of the highlighters in the Profusion Eye & Cheek Palette*. The palette houses two beautiful highlighters, a light golden-toned champagne as well as a darker peachy champagne hue. The formula of the highlighters is excellent - they feel so soft, apply smoothly onto the skin and they provide the complexion with a soft glow or can be built up for a more intense glow without any visible shimmer particles in them.

Eyes:
For this eyeshadow look, I just created a soft, simple look for everyday wear. I used the shade 'Embrace' from the Profusion Eye & Cheek Palette* which is a light brown transition shade, and I also applied the shade 'Comeback', a rich chocolate brown, in the outer corner of the eye, followed by the shade 'Antique', a shimmering gold hue on the lid. I was very impressed with how the eyeshadows performed, particularly the shimmers - so pigmented and they have a lovely metallic sheen - and I thought the mattes blended nicely. There was a little bit of fallout though which is not something that usually bothers me but it's worth noting as you might like to do your foundation/concealer after your eyes. Overall, I think this palette is pretty impressive for the price and you get a mix of eyeshadows and complexion powders so that's handy! I've also been testing out the Profusion Amber Eyes Palette* which has some pretty pink shades in it for Spring.

My current go-to mascara is the Essence Volume Hero Mascara* {Review}. The product provides my lashes with length, volume and a curl and the results last throughout the whole day. I think this is an excellent mascara, especially considering it only costs €3.80!

Lips:
I've been loving glossy nude lips recently and the Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lipcolour in Dawn is the perfect easy-to-wear, glossy nude lip.

What are your Spring makeup essentials?

Cliona xx

Dr Roebuck's Roundup

Dr Roebuck's review

Dr Roebuck's Roundup!

I have quite fussy skin and it can be a nightmare trying to cater to all of my skin concerns. My skin type is combination to dry as I have minor oily areas on my chin and around my nose but the rest of my face gets bad dry flaky patches and tightness. My skin is also sensitive and I'm prone to getting allergic reactions from products as well as hormonal breakouts. As you can imagine, finding skincare products that cater to my skin's needs can be tricky but recently I was kindly sent some new skincare products to try and my skin has been loving them!

Dr Roebuck's is a brand that has been on my wishlist for quite some time after reading rave reviews from US bloggers. The brand's ethos towards skincare is what got me interested in their products. The brand uses a minimal amount of ingredients so there are no harsh, nasty ingredients in them. All of the products are packed full of antioxidants and a combination of other active ingredients to help restore skin as well as preventing it from anti-aging, free radicals etc. so I think it's a great all-rounder brand that every skin type can benefit from.

Cleanser:
I'm an avid double cleanser and my favourite type of cleanser to use for my second cleanse step is a creamy/milky offering that will not only remove leftover makeup and dirt from the day but will also nourish the skin, leaving it feeling soft as a baby's skin! Enter my latest cleansing favourite, Dr Roebuck's Nourishing Creme Cleanser*. This gentle cleanser has a milky lotion texture so it's ideal for all skin types as it'll gently cleanse the skin whilst also soothing and calming the skin. One of the key ingredients is Jojoba seed oil which is known to have antibacterial benefits and is also known to soothe irritated skin.

Serums:
The first serum I've been using from the brand is their Ultimate Hydrating Serum* and as the name suggests, it's a hydrating serum to keep skin plump and hydrated. The serum is packed with numerous skin-loving ingredients that have a role in combatting and preventing dry/dehydrated skin such as Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, and Aloe Vera. The results that I got from this serum were incredible! Whenever I applied this my skin was so plump and dewy - it gave life to my lacklustre skin!

The Protect & Prevent Serum* has also been a staple in my routine as it smoothes over any texture so it's been a great product to use prior to makeup application. This serum has a similar honey-like texture as the hydrating serum and it also comes in a pipette dispenser - is it just me or is skincare more fun when it comes with a pipette? I feel like a scientest. I digress. Anyway, this serum is enriched with Blueberry Extract which is an antioxidant that promotes youthful and glowing skin and the product also contains Hyaluronic Acid so it's going to help retain the skin's moisture.

Next up is the Boost & Tighten Serum* and this product contains one of my favourite ingredients, Ginseng Extract, which helps to brighten the complexion. And after a long day of wearing makeup and being surrounded by pollution, this gives my dull, tired skin a boost, making it look healthier and similarly to the hydrating serum, the serum provides my complexion with a dewy appearance. Each of the serums also contains Niacinamide which is good for helping uneven skin tone, soothes redness, and helps reduce hyperpigmentation so it's a good ingredient for everyone to have in their routine.

Dr Roebuck's Serums Review

Mask:
A pamper session would be incomplete without a good face mask and one I've been reaching for a lot lately is the Dr Roebuck's Polish 2-in-1 Mask & Scrub*. It contains tiny Jojoba beads so it can be used as a traditional exfoliating scrub or as a mask. I usually use it as a mask so I just leave it on for around 3 minutes and wash it off with water, using a warm flannel to remove any excess. This gently buffs away any dry flaky patches, leaving my skin feeling smooth and my makeup always applies more smoothly on my skin after using this! Sometimes products with exfoliating beads can cause redness or irritate the skin but I found this mask to be very gentle on my sensitive skin. It contains peppermint oil so it has a sweet minty scent that smells good enough to eat and it's also formulated with natural Vitamin E oil, an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals.

Moisturiser:
For my evening moisturiser, I've been using Dr Roebuck's Pure Moisturiser* recently. This rich cream has a thick texture that is highly-moisturising and provides the skin with long-lasting nourishment, without making it greasy or clogging pores. If you have dry skin then this will be perfect for you and it's been a life-saver in my routine, especially during the snow! My skin has been feeling very nourished recently, and I've experienced less tightness and I haven't had to deal with as much dry skin. I've even been able to reach for my Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation as normally it can cling to dry patches but I haven't had to worry about that recently. The formula is quite thick though and it takes a little longer to rub the product in than lighter moisturisers so I usually reserve this for evening use and mornings when I'm not in a rush.

Body Moisturiser:
Another moisturising favourite from the brand is their Pure Body Ultra Hydrating Body Créme*. This is the same formula as the facial moisturiser so it's a very rich and nourishing formula. My skin can be quite sensitive, particularly on my legs but I found the product to be gentle and soothing. Noteworthy ingredients in this moisturiser include Shea Butter, Macadamia Oil, Vitamin E, Neroli Oil and Lavender Oil which are known for their anti-inflammatory and protective properties.

Have you tried this brand?

Cliona xx

Four Essentials For A Dewy Complexion This Spring

Dewy Spring foundation routine

Four Essentials For A Dewy Complexion This Spring!

In the Spring/Summer, I love dewy bases paired with cream highlighters that provide a natural sheen to the skin. Recently, I've been using a combination of four products to help me achieve glowing, healthy skin and I thought it would be rude not to share this combination with you *insert winking emoji*

Foundation:
At the moment I'm using my Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation. This product is literally healthy skin in a bottle and I know I always say this but it's the best way to describe it! Even though it has a light coverage, it always makes my complexion look flawless, radiant and youthful, and I actually find that because my skin looks so healthy that it makes my spots not as noticeable. I have combination to dry skin and as a result, foundations can often make my skin look older than it actually is and my skin can also look haggard because of foundation clinging to the dry areas but my skin always looks youthful and plump with this.

Spring base routine

Beauty Blender:
Recently, I was kindly sent the original Beauty Blender* to try along with the Liquid Blender Cleanser* which has been a life-saver for cleaning the sponge. Makeup sponges are an essential in my makeup bag as they help foundation glide over dry patches whereas brushes can sometimes lift the dry skin and accentuate the problem. I've never tried the original Beauty Blender before but I have to say I'm really impressed! The pointy end is great for blending out concealer as well as liquid/cream highlighter, and the larger round end is the perfect size for blending foundation quickly and seamlessly. And it gets bonus points for looking pretty and colourful on my dressing table!

Concealer:
One of my favourite concealers to use for this minimal dewy makeup look is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. This creamy hydrating concealer feels lightweight on the skin so it's ideal for this look and the medium coverage conceals most of my blemishes and my dark under eyes without looking cakey.

Highlighter:
I've been using quite a few cream highlighters recently as I'm loving how they look on my skin at the moment! A budget-friendly option that's been in my makeup bag a lot lately is the new Essence 3D Dewy Look Stick*. It provides the most natural sheen to the skin and it's almost as if your natural oils are shining through (in a good way, ha!). I think if you have dry skin and you like a natural dewy look then you'll like this!

Snow Day Outfit

Snow Day Outfit

Snow Day Outfit!

If you've been watching my Insta Stories recently then you might've seen my Spring clothing haul. I picked up a few Spring wardrobe staples recently, and I'm so excited to start wearing them! However, on Sunday we woke up to a blanket of snow in Dublin and despite my disappointment about the Spring weather being delayed, I decided to make the most of the pretty Winter wonderland scene by taking photos of one of my favourite Winter looks.

Essence Volume Hero Mascara

Essence Volume Hero Mascara

Essence Volume Hero Mascara!

I'm quite fussy when it comes to mascara. Volume, length, separation and holding a curl are all essential properties of a good mascara for me, and my turn-offs include flaking, smudging, and over-clumping. Recently, I've been testing the new Essence Volume Hero Mascara* and it's become a hero product {pun intended} in my makeup bag.

This mascara promised 'extra volume and maximum lashes' and it has done exactly what it says on the tin!

It has a medium sized plastic spiky brush which coats each lash individually giving them a separated fluttery appearance. The wand is easy to use and it allows me to coat the lashes from the base to the tip without getting any product on my lids or brow bone.

One generous coating is enough to give the lashes a voluminous lift and a curl but a light second layer adds an extra oomph to the length of the lashes. When comparing it to my all-time favourite mascara - Maybelline Lash Sensational - I noticed that it gave around the same amount of volume, however, what made the Essence mascara stand out more was the extra length it gave to the lashes. The wear-time was also excellent, no flaking or smudging throughout the day and the curl lasted well too - my lashes looked the exact same at the end of every day as they did in the morning when I first applied the product.

What's the best thing about this mascara? It only costs €3.80! €3.80!! I'm really pleased with the results I got from this mascara! I think it's a great everyday product to have in my makeup bag and I definitely want to try more Essence mascaras now *Runs to Penneys to buy all of the Essence mascaras*

New Beauty Launches You Need To Know About

New beauty launches

New Beauty Launches You Need To Know About!

The beauty industry is fast-paced and there's always plenty of new launches rolling out each month and I thought I'd round up some of the new products that have caught my eye recently in the latest instalment of my 'new beauty launches posts'.

Anastasia Beverly Hills:
Not one but three new ABH launches have landed at Cult Beauty! The most hyped product is definitely the Soft Glam eyeshadow palette, probably because it's supposed to be the sister palette of the beloved Modern Renaissance. At first, I dismissed this palette because it has a few of the same shades as the MR palette, however, upon reflection, I think it could be worth the splurge for me seeing as I get so much use out of my MR palette. But I'll think about it for a few more weeks before I make a decision!

Another hyped up launch is their new Amrezy highlighter which looks very pretty but I think it might be slightly too golden for my pale skin, so I don't think I'll end up buying it. They also released a host of new bronzers which look lovely!

Nars:
One of my favourite brands, Nars added a new foundation to their line called the Natural Radiant Longwear foundation. Since Nars is my favourite brand for base products I obviously *need* to try it! It's supposed to be full coverage, lightweight, long-wearing, radiant and undetectable on the skin so I'm excited to find out if it lives up to its claims. Sadly, a lot of the shades have sold out but when my shade comes back into stock I'll definitely be trying it!

Makeup Revolution:
A new foundation requires a new concealer to go with it *wink wink* and I currently have my eye on the new Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define concealer. Word on the street is that it's a dupe for the famous Tarte Shape Tape and I love a good bargain so I can't wait to try this one!

Glossier:
Glossier is a brand I've been dying to try but it's hard to get our hands on it in Ireland. The latest launch is their new Lidstars, a liquid eyeshadow that's available in six shades, ranging from a creamy champagne hue to a rose gold shade and they even have a lilac hue in the collection - So pretty!

Hourglass:
I've been loving cream and liquid makeup products recently, especially highlighter so I'm very tempted to splurge on the new Hourglass Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick. I've been watching the Hourglass Insta Stories and live tutorials using these and they look so pretty and versatile!

Charlotte Tilbury:
My favourite brand has released a couple of new products recently and two have caught my eye! Firstly, the Hollywood Flawless Filter is a unique product as it's meant to be used as a foundation booster. It has a dewy finish that adds a gorgeous glow to the skin from what I've seen online and it can be used in a number of different ways:
1) Underneath foundation
2) Mixed into foundation
3) On top of foundation where you'd normally apply highlighter
4) All over the face
The second launch that wowed me from CT is their new K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in The Duchess. The shade is described as a tea-rose pink shade and it looks like it would be the perfect shade for Spring!

A Skincare Roundup

Skincare collection

A Skincare Roundup!

In the last few months, I've been carving out more time in the evenings for skincare pamper sessions. There's nothing better than slathering my skin with nourishing oils and indulgent face masks after a long, tiring day. Recently I've welcomed some new additions to my skincare stash and I've rediscovered my love for some old favourites that I hadn't used in a while so without further ado here's my current skincare roundup.

Cleanser:
I always double cleanse in the evenings if I wore makeup and SPF that day and recently I've been using the Superfacialist by Úna Brennan Vitamin C Brightening Cleansing Oil as my first cleanse. I don't know about the brightening claim as I think only serums/masks/treatments etc are going to provide those type of results, however, it's a great cleansing oil that removes makeup well and leaves my skin feeling nourished.

For my morning cleanser and my second cleanser in the evenings, I introduced the Dr Roebuck's Cleanse Nourishing Creme Cleanser* into my routine a few weeks ago and I'm loving it! It has a milky consistency, and it feels cooling and nourishing on the skin so it's ideal for all skin types, especially sensitive and dry skin.

Serum:
For my morning serum, I've been reaching for the Dr Roebuck's Ultimate Hydrating Serum*. This serum has not only been providing my skin with the hydrating properties you'd expect, but it's also been providing my complexion with a healthy glow.

Dr Roebuck's review

Moisturiser:
Lately, I've been using a light moisturiser in the mornings and a rich moisturiser in the evening. I have combination skin that leans more towards the dry side so it's important for me to include rich moisturisers and nourishing oils into my routine. However, I find a light moisturiser is better for the morning as it's quicker to use and doesn't interfere with makeup application. At the moment, I'm using Bioderma Sensibio Light which is a simple fuss-free moisturiser that provides a good amount of hydration to the skin, especially considering it's a light formula, and makeup applies nicely on top of it.

In the evenings, I'm using Dr Roebuck's Pure moisturiser* which is a rich, nourishing cream. My forehead is the area where I suffer most from dry skin, it constantly feels tight and it's often flaky in texture so this moisturiser has been a life-saver! Since introducing this into my routine my skin has been less flaky and tight, and instead, my skin has been feeling hydrated and plump.

Facial Oil:
My dry skin loves oils so I try to always have one in my routine. I'm currently using the Aesop Fabulous Face Oil which is definitely my favourite oil that I've tried. I usually mix this into a moisturiser and pairing it with the Dr Roebuck's Pure moisturiser creates the perfect duo for dry skin!

Masks:
I use lots of different masks depending on what my skin needs but one of my most-used masks at the moment is Dr Roebuck's Polish 2-in-1 Mask & Scrub*. This is an exfoliating mask that contains tiny exfoliating beads to gently smooth the skin and buff any dry flaky patches away. This mask is so gentle on my sensitive skin and I notice an improvement in my skin's texture anytime I use it.

I also like to have a hydrating mask on the go at all times and I'm currently loving the Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. As the name suggests, it's a moisturising mask that can be worn overnight and in the morning I wake up to plump, soft skin.

Charlotte Tilbury Favourites

Top picks from Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury Favourites!

If I could only use one makeup brand for the rest of my life I would choose Charlotte Tilbury. Not only is their aesthetic beautiful with the stunning rose gold packaging, but the products are excellent quality and I love the brand's ethos towards makeup application too - Quick, easy and simple makeup looks that anyone can create.

The Light Wonder foundation is ideal for dry/dehydrated complexions as the lightweight hydrating formula won't cling to dry patches and the luminous finish will completely transform dull skin. It's essentially healthy skin in a bottle!

The Magic Foundation is a better option for those with oily/blemish-prone skin due to the medium-buildable coverage and demi-matte finish. This is my go-to foundation for any events or days where I'm going to be in photos as it covers my breakouts quite well and lasts longer on my oily areas (around my nose and chin) but it's not as drying as a typical matte foundation.

My all-time favourite CT product is definitely the Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette. The bronzing powder in the palette is the perfect shade for my pale skin as it's not too warm-toned or too cool-toned, making it ideal for adding a little bit of definition as well as a little warmth to the skin in one go. The highlighter is my favourite everyday highlighter as it provides the most beautiful sheen to my complexion.

Speaking of highlighters, a recent addition to my Charlotte Tilbury collection is the Hollywood Beauty Light Wand. This liquid highlighter provides that wet dewy finish that looks like the skin's natural healthy sheen (in the right places though, haha!).

Charlotte Tilbury top picksCharlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand

Another cheek favourite is the Cheek To Chic blush in Sex On Fire. At first, I wasn't sure if the deep rosy mauve hue would flatter my pale skin but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked on my complexion. It provides that classic winter flush look to the cheeks - So pretty!

Charlotte Tilbury makes their eyeshadow products really easy to use so it's foolproof to create any type of eye look, varying from simple daytime looks to smoky evening looks. The Dolce Vita quad allows me to create a softer daytime look using the prime and enhance shade, whilst pairing all four shades together can give me a dramatic smoky look for evening wear.

An everyday eyeshadow staple is their Eyes To Mesmerise cream shadow in Jean. This creamy champagne shadow brightens the eyes and it's a life-saver for early mornings as the product instantly makes me look fresh and awake.

No makeup look is complete without a lip product and one of my most-used lip liners is the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat. The 'my lips but better' shade complements most nude and pink lipsticks, and it helps lips appear plumper. I don't know anyone that isn't a fan of it!

I usually pair the liner with either of my CT lipsticks - I have Kidman's Kiss and Bitch Perfect. The former is a soft pink shade with a soft creamy matte formula whilst the latter is a classic peachy nude with a nourishing creamy satin formula.
