New Essence Products To Try

New Essence products

New Essence Products To Try!

Essence is one of my favourite budget brands and I was kindly gifted some of their products to try recently. I've been testing out lots of their new launches since March and for today's post I'll be rounding up my top picks out of everything I've tried. From a hero mascara to a dewy highlighter to an everyday lipstick, here are some new Essence products you need to know about!

I'll start off my with favourite pick of the bunch, the Volume Hero Mascara* {Review}. This gem comes with a small price tag of €3.80 but it provides maximum results that are just as good as other pricier mascaras. The product provides my lashes with volume, length, a curl and gives them a fluttery appearance. Price: €3.80

My next favourite is their Make Me Brow Eyebrow Powder* and I was so excited to try this because I've wanted to try the Make Me Brow brow gel from them for so long but it's always sold out it in my shade in my local Penneys *insert crying emoji* I will track down a Make Me Brow brow gel in the brunette shade one day but until then the eyebrow powder is making sure my brows are on fleek! The product comes with a little sponge applicator that coats the brows with a few quick swipes but it's important to wipe off the excess before applying the product otherwise there's a lot of fallout. It's an easy, effortless product to use to achieve soft, natural brows for my everyday makeup look. Price: €3.10

I'm loving cream highlighters for Spring and two that I've been reaching for from Essence are the 3D Dewy Look Stick* and the Holo Wow! Sparkle Stick*. The former provides a natural glossy look to the skin, it's transparent so there's no champagne, gold or peachy tones to it like other traditional highlighters and it just makes the skin look fresh, youthful and healthy, it's like your own oils shining through - It looks beautiful on the skin and is the perfect addition to my everyday makeup bag! Whilst the latter is an iridescent pink hue with tiny flecks of shimmer and I tend to reach for this one when I'm wearing a bit more makeup. Price: €4.40

Another highlighter I've been testing out is their Glow Like A Mermaid Highlighter*. I've never tried a mermaid highlighter before but I was really impressed with this one! When I first apply the highlighter to the skin you can see a slight hint of the colours showing up on the cheeks but once you blend it out it changes to a beautiful white highlight shade. Price: €4.40

New Essence Products

A base product I've been enjoying is their You Better Work! Primer*. This primer has a green tint to it so I find that it cancels out redness quite well, it smooths the skin, making makeup apply better and it makes my foundation last a bit longer on my oily chin and nose. Price: €4.40

I've been trying a couple of their new lip products including the Draw The Line! Instant Colour Lipliner in 'So Un-Grey-Tful'*. The formula of the lip liner is very creamy, it glides onto the lips effortlessly without tugging the lips, and it's so creamy that it can be worn all over the lips too. It's also extremely pigmented and the shade is a cool-toned greyish mauve. I've often just been applying this on its own all over the lips and patting the colour down for a subtle makeup look but it also looks lovely paired with other lipsticks too. Price: €1.90

Another new lip product I've been reaching for is the Colour Up! Shine On Lipstick in 10 Rosey Glitz*. This lipstick has a creamy, glossy formula and feels hydrating on the lips, making it ideal for when my lips are feeling dry. The shade is a classic deep pinky nude hue and it isn't overly pigmented so it's ideal for minimal everyday makeup looks. Price: €4.80

And last but not least is the Create & Transform My Wonder Lip Palette*. This lip palette is packed full of vivid colours that you can mix and match to create your perfect lipstick shade. Some of the colours are wearable on their own like the bright coral, the deep rosy nude, a light baby pink, and a striking orange-toned red. The formula of the lip products are very creamy and they have a slight glossy sheen to them. I never thought I would like a lip palette but I'm surprised at how often I've been reaching for this - I love applying the nude shades with my finger for a quick everyday look. Price: €11.25

The Best Instagram Hashtags To Use

The Best Instagram Hashtags To Use!

After a year of hardly any growth on Instagram in 2017, my following is increasing a little bit more this year. I've already gained more followers in the past 4 months of this year than I did in the entire year in 2017! The increase in my growth this year is down to a combination of changes I've made to my Instagram since January but one of the things I've changed is switching up the hashtags I use on each of my photos. Using a broader range of hashtags has allowed my photos to be seen by a wider audience and as a result, my following growth and my engagement have improved a little bit since last year. For today's post, I wanted to round up my favourite hashtags to use on Instagram.

Three Clinique Moisture Surge Favourites

clinique moisture surge review

3 Clinique Moisture Surge Favourites!

As someone with combination to dry skin who also has sensitive skin and gets hormonal breakouts you can probably imagine how awkward it is to find products that will cater to all of my skin's concerns. Enter the Clinique Moisture Surge range, a skincare line that helps keep my skin hydrated without making it greasy or clogging up my pores. The range is also 100% fragrance-free so it's kind to my sensitive skin too and doesn't aggravate my breakouts.

My love affair with this range started with the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief Moisturiser when I was 18 and the products have been staples in my routine ever since. The product has a lightweight, cooling gel consistency which soothes and calms the skin after cleansing, and it's the perfect pre-makeup base due to the light and non-greasy formula.

The next product I tried from the range was the Moisture Surge Overnight Mask. The consistency of this is quite different to the moisturiser as it has a thicker, creamier formula. I love overnight masks as they're more moisturising than a regular moisturiser and you don't have to wait 10-15 minutes and then wipe the excess product off like a traditional mask, I can just pop this on and jump straight into bed! Every morning after applying this, I wake up to soft, plump skin and any dry flaky patches are gone.

The most recent product I've tried from the range is the Hydrating Supercharge Concentrate Serum and whether you have dry, dehydrated skin or even a normal or oily skin type this serum will be ideal for you because it's like giving the skin a drink - it provides instant hydration and helps maintain the skin's hydration. It's one of my favourite hydrating serums that I've tried!

New In From Rosie For Autograph

Rosie for Autograph review

New In From Rosie For Autograph!

Rosie For Autograph is a beauty brand that I've loved since it launched a few years ago. I'm a bit of a Rosie Huntington-Whitely fangirl and I love everything about her style and makeup so this range was literally made for me *insert an excited face emoji* The first products I fell in love with from the swoon-worthy rose gold makeup line was an eyeshadow quad and a lipstick. But earlier this month I added two new products from the range to my makeup collection so without further ado here's the low-down of my new Rosie For Autograph products that I'm loving.

The first product I got was the Cream Eyeshadow Stick in Feline Fox, a beautiful bronze shade. It's the perfect neutral everyday shade for an easy eye look but it can also work for an evening look smudged onto the lower lash line for a simple smokey eye. It provides a gorgeous frost finish to the lids, the formula is smooth, creamy and the product glides onto the eyelids with ease. It doesn't budge or crease at all throughout the day, and not to mention how beautiful the packaging is - It looks gorgeous on my vanity table! If you're on the hunt for an easy eyeshadow to use that you can wear for a simple daytime look as well as creating a smokey evening look then I highly recommend this!

I also picked up the Amazing Skin Secret Foundation which offers a medium coverage with a lightweight formula. The foundation doesn't feel heavy or cakey on the skin, and the formula is ideal for my combination to dry skin as it doesn't cling to dry patches and when worn with a primer on my nose and chin it lasts all day. It provides a satin finish and it makes my complexion look very healthy and youthful. The only downside to the foundation is that I bought a shade with the wrong undertone. The shade is great for my pale skin but I would've suited a shade with yellow undertones whereas the shade I got is slightly pink. However, it's not too pink, more of a neutral to pink undertone so it still looks nice on my skin. If you like medium coverage foundations with a lightweight feel then this foundation is definitely worth checking out!

A Quick & Easy Purple Eyeshadow Look

Quick & Easy Purple Eye Look

A Quick & Easy Purple Eyeshadow Look!

My favourite type of makeup looks are ones that are quick, easy and simple to do! One of my favourite looks for when I want to make a little bit more effort with my makeup is a subtle purple eye look with a little bit of shimmer on the lid to make my eyes pop. I have a combination of four eyeshadows that I like to use to achieve this look so I thought I'd share it in today's post!

1) Priming & Setting The Lid:
I always start my eye makeup with priming the lid and I usually use concealer to do this, mainly because I'm too lazy to use a separate eye primer and I also like to keep the number of products I use to a minimum. At the moment, I'm using the Mac Select Cover Up Concealer and it's my favourite concealer for priming my lids. To set the concealer I usually use a setting powder or a white/cream eyeshadow. For this look, I'll be setting it with setting powder as I'll be using a cream eyeshadow and they tend to crease more than powder eyeshadows. One of my favourite setting powders is my Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Natural.

2) The Crease Shade:
I always use a light transition shade in the crease and for this look, I like to use Buon Fresco from the ABH Modern Renaissance palette. This matte mauve shade is the perfect transition shade and it goes with so many different types of eyeshadow looks.

quick & easy purple eyeshadow look

3) The Lid Shade:
For a pop of shimmer on the lid, I use the By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Frozen Quartz. I'd describe the shade as a pinky rose gold hue that has a slight mauvey shift to it. It has a gorgeous shimmery frost finish and it just looks so beautiful on the lids. I pop this all over the lid after applying the crease shade. It's so quick and effortless to apply, and the plus side of using a cream shadow instead of a shimmery powder is that there's a guarantee of no messy fallout.

4) Adding Some Depth To The Outer Corner Of The Eye:
To add some depth to the look, I like to use a dark purple shade and the Makeup Obsession Eyeshadow in Mulberry is the perfect shade for this look! This shade has a little bit of shimmer in it but it doesn't really translate on the eyes, making it a great shade to use in the outer corner of the eye. There is a little bit of fallout from it but it's nothing major!

5) The Lash Line:
I usually apply the same matte shades I used in the crease to the lower lash line but I do something slightly different with this look. Firstly, I apply the transition shade - Buon Fresco from the Modern Renaissance palette - to the lower lash line and then I add the shade Antique Bronze, which is from the same palette. This adds a little bit of bronzey smokiness to the look and I think it complements the look.

how to edit blog & Instagram photos

How I Take & Edit My Blog / Instagram Photos!

During a blog planning session at the start of this month, I was looking back at my old posts for inspiration as well as looking at my analytics to see what type of posts people enjoy reading. My post on 'How To Take Bright & Airy Instagram Photos' is by far my most popular post ever and seeing as my blog/Instagram photography process is quite different now I thought I'd do an updated version.

3 Ways I'm Updating My Wardrobe For Spring

Spring Wardrobe Updates
Spring wardrobe essentials

3 Ways I'm Updating My Wardrobe For Spring!

For years, I was never a Spring/Summer kinda girl. I've always preferred Autumn, particularly the fashion as I love donning a statement Blair Waldorf-esque coat and layering with cosy knitwear. However, this year I'm embracing Spring more than ever and for once I'm actually getting excited about t-shirt and shorts weather. We've a little while to go yet until it's that warm but for now, I've been adding a few new pieces to my wardrobe for the new season as well as digging out some old Spring style favourites.

Hit & miss products

Hit & Miss Products!

I'm constantly trying different products in search of new favourites and most of the products I try I end up falling in love with because I do a lot of research before buying most things. However, sometimes I take a chance with products and sometimes they just don't suit my skin type or skin tone. And that leads me on to today's post, a hit & miss roundup, as I haven't done one of these in awhile!

Hits:
I was on the hunt for a new mask at the start of the year for a little new year skin detox. I read lots of reviews from my favourite blogs and a mask that popped up quite frequently was the Origins Original Skin Mask. I've gotten on really well with Origins masks before so I decided to give it a try. I'm so glad I did because it has become one of my favourite masks! It contains Mediterranean Rose Clay, Canadian Willowherb and exfoliating Jojoba Beads to gently clarify and smooth the skin. It's the perfect mask to use the night before wearing lots of makeup as it'll smooth the skin, making makeup apply more easily. It's also gentle on my sensitive skin and it leaves my skin looking rejuvenated and feeling clarified.

I'm really into cream and liquid highlighters at the moment as they help me achieve a fresh, natural, glowing complexion for Spring. A recent favourite has been the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand. This liquid highlighter comes with a sponge applicator making it quick, easy and not messy to use! It provides a gorgeous soft champagne dewy glow to the skin without adding any shimmer and it makes my complexion look fresh and youthful.

I've recently been testing lots of new Essence products (post coming soon!) and along with the Volume Hero Mascara* {Review}, I've also been loving their new Make Me Brow Eyebrow Powder*. The product is unique to traditional eyebrow powders as it comes with a little sponge applicator. At first, I wasn't sure whether I'd like it or not but I haven't been able to stop using it! Powder eyebrow products are my preferred method of filling in my brows as they're easy to work with and they allow me to achieve a precisely defined brow without looking too heavy. However, filling in my brows can be quite a long, tedious task whether I'm using powder or a pencil, but the sponge applicator of this fills the entire brow in a few swipes. It's so quick, making it an ideal product to use for those rushed early mornings.

Origins Original Skin Mask

Misses:
The Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish is one of my all-time favourite cleansers so I was excited to try one of their limited edition Cleanse & Polish cleansers. I tried the Sweet Orange & Mint scent but unfortunately, the product was just too heavily fragranced for my skin. It hasn't caused any irritation so it's not too bad but my skin does feel a little bit sensitive after using it. The sensitivity isn't too bad so I'll be able to finish the bottle but next time I'll definitely just stick to the original which I love!

Recently, I purchased the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue thinking it would be a great Spring/Summer base product. However, I haven't really been liking it all that much because sadly the lightest shade in the range is too dark for me and it looks slightly orange on my skin tone - Not the look I'm going for, haha! I probably won't repurchase this again and I'll think I'll stick to my old reliable favourites for light minimal makeup, the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser and the Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder.

I'm always on the hunt for new concealers, especially budget options for day-to-day wear! I used to love the Catrice Camouflage Cream Concealer so I decided to give the Catrice Liquid Camouflage a go. The formula of this is lovely, it's creamy, lightweight, it provides a subtle luminosity to the under eyes and once set with a powder it didn't crease on me. However, the reason I've stopped using this and passed it on to my Mam is due to the scent. Similarly to the cleanser, this is too heavily fragranced for me and causes a little bit of sensitivity to my skin. The scent is also very strong and makes me feel nauseous throughout the day so I just couldn't bear to use it any longer!

Four Spring Lipsticks

Four Spring lipsticks

Four Spring Lipsticks!

A new season to me is a fresh start and in the Spring, I like to do declutters, replace my Winter clothes for Spring pieces in my wardrobe as well as having a makeup reshuffle. Recently, I've been thinking about my Spring lipstick menu and taking out the lipsticks that I haven't worn in awhile out of hibernation. I've gathered four picks ranging from a pale baby pink hue to a vivid orangey-red shade.

I'm not the biggest matte lipstick lover with the exception of bright shades and one of my favourite bright matte shades for Spring is the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Iberico. The bright orangey-red hue is a versatile shade that can be worn during the festive season as well as in the Spring/Summer months. What I love about the velvet matte lip pencils is that the formula isn't as drying as other mattes, the size of the lip pencil allows for precision application and this shade lasts for a good few hours and doesn't bleed.

Spring lipsticks

Another Nars favourite is their Satin Lip Pencil in Torres Del Paine which looks like a deep rosy pink shade but on my lips, it translates as a quintessential Spring peachy coral hue. I'm loving glossy, satin and nourishing lipstick formulas more than mattes at the moment and the formula of this lip pencil is perfect! A creamy formula with a satin finish so it's not too glossy and a little bit more long-lasting than some of my other glossy, creamy lipstick formulas.

A recent addition to my lipstick collection is the Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colour in Angel. I was so grateful to receive this as a Christmas present and I've been wearing it a lot since I got it - I can't stop reaching for it! I'd describe Angel as a rosy pink shade with some peachy tones. I love the nourishing balmy formula of these, it's unlike anything else in my collection and I'm thinking of adding another shade to my collection.

And last but not least is an oldie but a goodie: Mac Creme Cup. I've had this cult classic shade in my collection for years and it has certainly stood the test of time as it's still one of my favourites to this day. The shade is a pale baby pink and it pairs beautifully with darker lip liners to give the appearance of slightly plumper lips. The creme sheen formula is my favourite Mac lipstick formula as they're so moisturising and they have a slightly glossy, juicy finish.

What are your favourite Spring lipsticks?

Cliona xx

Les Georgettes Jewellery
Les georgettes bracelet

Five Jewellery Favourites!

An outfit is never complete without some statement or delicate jewellery pieces, and recently I've welcomed a few new additions and rediscovered my love for some old favourites. I mostly wear necklaces on an everyday basis as they're easy to just throw on with any outfit but every now and then I like to adorn myself in rings and bracelets too. I have a nice little collection of personalised and customizable jewellery so I thought I'd share a few of my favourite jewellery pieces in today's post.

Spring Dressing Table Details!

My favourite corner in my home is without a doubt my dressing table. This is where I come to apply makeup, to do my hair, to blog, to study, to think and to be inspired. I'm constantly switching up the decor on my vanity but after years of chopping and changing the decor, I've finally found a setup that I'm happy with so I thought I'd share my current setup in today's post.

Life lately post

Life Lately: Spring Updates & A New Approach To Blogging!

Recently I've been taking a lot of inspiration from my old posts (more on that later) and I used to write little life update posts quite frequently. In the past year or so I've been struggling to share lifestyle content because I like to stay quite private on my blog. I share so much but yet I share so little - anyone that reads my blog or follows me on Instagram will know what a lot of my interests are, what I like/don't like but overall I keep my life and views on certain matters private. However, when reading my old life update posts I used to just write about things I'm enjoying rather than what's actually going on in my life and some of the topics included, updating you on what TV programmes I'm loving, what I'm loving/not loving at the moment etc. So I thought I'd bring back these posts every now and again and just have a chat about some lifestyle things I'm enjoying.
