We're approaching the halfway point of the year already and I don't need to tell you how quickly these past few months have whizzed by! Three New Haircare Favourites

Three New Haircare Favourites!

I've always been lazy with my haircare routine, as long as it was washed, brushed, a quick blast of the blow-dryer and maybe the odd hair mask then I was happy enough. However, recently I felt the urge to up my haircare game and I wanted to develop a proper styling routine, so I treated myself to some new haircare products from Umberto Giannini.

An Easy Statement Makeup Look

An Easy Statement Makeup Look!

You all know by now that my favourite type of makeup looks are quick and easy ones. And seeing as it's the weekend I thought I'd share one of my favourite quick and easy statement makeup looks that's perfect for the weekend!

1) The Base:
My hormonal acne usually flares up when my anxiety is bad and I'm currently suffering from the worst acne I've ever had *insert crying emoji* Normally I wear light to medium bases regardless of whether I have a breakout or not but for a look like this I prefer to wear a fuller coverage base. I opted for the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation as it feels lightweight on the skin but I can build up the coverage and it's one of the best foundations in my collection for smoothing over any texture from my acne.

2) The Complexion:
I always wear subtle bronzers and blushers because I think the 'barely-there' look suits me. I applied the Luminous Bronze Light Bronzer from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Volume 3 Palette. This adds a subtle luminous bronzey glow to the skin and it's a great shade for fair skin.

Another complexion favourite that I used in this makeup routine was the Nars Luster Blush. The peachy apricot shade adds a subtle wash of colour and radiance to the cheeks.

My highlighter of choice was the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand and this has become my favourite highlighter in recent months. The product melts into the skin, providing a luminous dewy glow that looks natural and makes my complexion look healthy.

3) The Eyes:
For my statement eyeshadow looks, I usually opt for sparkly and shimmery offerings and for this look I was inspired by one of Estée Lalonde's recent videos where Katie Jane Hughes did her makeup. In the video, she used a bronze cream eyeshadow all over the lid and applied a silver glittery shadow on the centre of the lid. To create my version of the look, I applied the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On And On Bronze all over the lid, followed by the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Diamond Dust on the centre of the lids. And lastly, I used a little bit of Mac Cork eyeshadow in the outer corners because I felt that the Maybelline eyeshadow needed a matte shadow to help blend it out a bit better.

4) The Lips:
The easiest way to add a statement to any makeup look is by adding a bright, colourful lipstick shade and I opted for a new favourite, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Creme Lipstick in Hexagram*. The rich red hue complements the silver glitter and whilst the formula of the lipstick is matte, it still feels comfortable on the lips, it applies smoothly, without tugging the lips and it doesn't transfer as much as some of my other coloured lipsticks.

New beauty launches

New Beauty Launches You Need To Know About!

It's that time again where I trawl through the overwhelming 'new in' sections of the best beauty websites such as Cult Beauty, Brown Thomas, Debenhams and Space NK. The beauty industry is abuzz with the abundance of new releases popping up on the market at the moment and I've selected my top picks of the bunch to round up in today's blog post.

books I've read recently

The Books I've Read Recently!

It's no secret that reading is one of my favourite hobbies, however, I don't know what's happened to my reading mojo this year. I read two books in January and then after that, I ended up in a reading slump so I haven't read as much as I'd like at this stage of the year. I had my Goodreads reading goal set to 25 but I've lowered it to 20 so I'm not pressured and overwhelmed to finish the challenge. And it seems to have worked because I'm slowly but surely starting to fall back in love with reading. But here's a look at the books that I've read so far this year and hopefully I'll get to read more soon!

Summer Lipsticks & Nail Polishes

Summer lipsticks & nail polishes

Summer Lipsticks & Nail Polishes!

I'm officially in Summer mode after the mini heatwave over the bank holiday weekend recently and I'm gathering my shorts, denim skirts, straw hats as well as some colourful makeup and nail polish favourites for the imminent arrival of Summer.

Lipsticks:
I usually opt for a classic nude lipstick hue on an everyday basis and one of my favourite hydrating options is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in 70. This will be the perfect effortless lipstick to apply on those hot sunny days when I don't want to worry about lipstick smudging and I can just quickly reapply it with a little mirror or even just the camera on my phone if I'm carrying a small bag.

Pink is another lipstick hue I'm fond of sporting during the sunny weather in Summer. Recently, I wore my Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Torres Del Paine for the first time in awhile and I forgot how pretty it looks on the lips! Normally the little ring of colour on the end of the pencils are a good depiction of what the colour of the lipstick looks like but in this case, it's a little misleading. The colour on the packaging looks like a peachy, apricot shade but in the bullet and when swatched it looks like a rosy pink shade. However, on my lips I can see the peachiness they were trying to convey but it's definitely more of a pink coral than an apricot shade though.

Another pink favourite is the Clinique Pop Matte Lip Colour and Primer in Peony Pop. A nude pink shade with a comfortable, creamy matte formula - I love the formula of this lipstick so much and I definitely need to add more shades to my collection (they always reduce this lipstick range on Feel Unique so I'll have to keep an eye on their website!).

I'm pretty sure that my last lipstick favourite features in nearly every Spring/Summer makeup roundup post I write but it's just the perfect shade for the two warmer seasons of the year. I am of course talking about Mac Tropic Tonic, a vivid coral with red and orange undertones and a long-lasting matte formula.

Nails:
Essie is my favourite nail polish brand as they last really well on my nails, the application is easy and they never look streaky. My favourite shade for Summer is Tart Deco, a bright orange-toned coral that complements a glowing Summer complexion and a floaty dress.

If I want to wear something more neutral during the warmer months then I'll usually opt for Muchi, Muchi which is a pale pink hue. Due to it being such a light colour, it needs three coats rather than just two but it's definitely worth the extra effort as the colour is light and airy - it would be a beautiful shade for a bridal party!

My last nail polish top pick for Summer is Peach Daiquiri, a hot pink shade with strong red undertones. In bright light, it looks pinker and in low light, it leans more on the red side - It's certainly a statement shade!

My Mac Lipstick Collection

Mac lipstick collection

My Mac Lipstick Collection!

Mac lipsticks have had a cult status in the beauty industry for years and although there are many new lipstick formulas available on the market from various different brands, Mac is still one of my favourite brands for lipsticks. I bought my first Mac lipstick around three years ago and I've added a few more shades to my collection since then so I thought I'd share my stash in today's post.

Cremesheen:
My first Mac lipstick was Modesty which is from the cremesheen line so I have a lot of love for this formula. I often get severe dry lips so creamy, nourishing lipsticks are essential and this formula is perfect as the lipsticks are creamy, nourishing, they don't accentuate any dryness and they feel comfortable to wear. As for the shade, it's a classic nude hue with a blend of pink and brown undertones so it doesn't look too dark or too light on the lips. It's the ideal nude for my fair complexion!

Another cremesheen favourite is Creme Cup. This light pink hue complements a dark smoky eye and it looks lovely paired with a darker liner to make the lips look a little bit fuller.

Satin:
The satin formula is another favourite because these usually last a little bit longer on the lips than the cremesheen formula but they still feel comfortable to wear and they don't make the lips feel dry. Brave is a cult classic shade as it was deemed one of the 'Kylie Jenner' lip shades a few years ago and the deep pinky mauve-toned hue certainly makes my lips look more luscious when paired with a brown-toned liner.

A recent addition to my collection is Good Health which was from the limited edition Lunar New Year collection at the start of this year. The limited edition packaging is definitely the star of the show but the lipstick inside is also pretty incredible. It's a peachy nude with deep rosy pink undertones and although it looks quite strong in the bullet and when it's swatched, on the lips it's toned down a little and it's actually an easy to wear shade so there's no need to worry about what makeup or clothes to pair with it.

Matte:
Moving on to my least favourite Mac formula, the mattes. I don't usually wear matte lipsticks often as I find them too drying and I don't like that uncomfortable matte feeling on the lips. However, I'm partial to donning a bright lip every now and then, especially in the Summer, and when I do I usually opt for a matte finish. My favourite bright lip option is Tropic Tonic, a vivacious coral with strong orangey-red undertones which is a shade that screams Summer!

Another bright lip option for when I'm feeling wild is Aim For Gorgeous, a vibrant cool-toned fuschia hue. This was sadly a limited edition shade for their Summer 2016 collection but the shade is quite similar to Nars Yu.

Amplified Creme:
The amplified creme formula is not mentioned as much as other Mac formulas and it's so underrated if you ask me. This finish has a stronger pigment with a creamy finish so it's a great range for nudes as the colour payoff on the lips is incredible!

Mineralize Rich:
And last but not least is Pure Pout from the Mineralize Rich range. I really like this formula, it's creamy, ultra-nourishing and it' amazing for when my lips are dry, in the Winter especially. However, the lipsticks from this range are €8 more expensive than the regular lipsticks and I honestly don't think it's worth the extra money. Stick to the cremesheen formula as they're just as good and you save €8!

What's your favourite Mac lipstick?

Love,
Cliona xx

Luna By Lisa Lip Glosses

Luna by Lisa lip gloss review

Luna By Lisa Lip Glosses!

Lip glosses have definitely made a comeback this year and I've been opting for creamier, glossier lipstick formulas as well as lip glosses lately. There has been a lot of new launches for lip glosses, lip stains and creamy lipstick offerings in recent months and today, I'm reviewing my favourite recent lip gloss launch: The Luna By Lisa Jordan Lip Gloss Set.

Lisa Jordan is an Irish influencer and at the end of last year, she released a lip gloss set containing four lip glosses for €30. Sometimes I think 'blogger products' can be quite expensive for what you're getting, however in this case I think the price is very reasonable. You get four high-end quality lip glosses with beautiful packaging and the tubes have a weighty luxurious feel to them.

The product inside is also incredible! These lip glosses have an incredible colour payoff, they have a creamy, moisturising formula, they don't feel sticky like other lip glosses and they have better lasting power than most lip glosses I've tried. Obviously, they don't last as long as a matte lipstick but for a lip gloss, I think the longevity is pretty good! As well as that they have a gorgeous sweet vanilla scent and they can be worn on their own, with a lip liner or over lipstick. There are four shades in the set including Sapphire, a deep pinky nude shade, Pink Ruby which is a blush pink with peachy undertones, Opal is a pale peach hue as well as Amber, a deep brown nude.
