Three To Try From Hourglass...
Dreamy makeup treats are a girl's best friend and makeup doesn't get dreamier than Hourglass. I was treated to three new Hourglass products for my birthday last month and after putting them to the test for a few weeks, I want to share these gems in today's beauty roundup. Get ready to meet my new highlighter favourite, as well as a fab foundation and a sparkly, glitzy must-have!
1) A Fab Foundation Find:
The odds are never in my favour for finding good foundation shades to suit my fair skin tone so I was always intrigued to try the Vanish Seamless Foundation Stick as they have a good shade selection. I went for the shade Cream and it's the best foundation shade match I've found so far! Hourglass describes it as a very fair shade with a cool undertone, however, I don't think it's extremely cool-toned. I hate pink-toned foundations but this isn't too pink, I think it sits between neutral and cool.
As for the formula, it has a high concentration of pigment which provides medium coverage on first application and it can easily be built up to full coverage or sheered out for lighter coverage. The stick applicator makes it really easy to work with, allowing me to apply just the right amount of foundation that I need, depending on what coverage I want that day. I'm sure we've all been there when it's the crack of dawn, you're still half asleep and you accidentally pump out way too much foundation, but you avoid that and the mess of a liquid foundation with this stick applicator.
I have acne on my cheeks and chin and it provided great coverage for my problem areas without masking the skin. I judged a book by its cover or in this case, I judged a foundation by its formula as I thought the thick cream formula would feel heavy and cakey on the skin but it feels lightweight on the skin. I also have dry, flaky skin on my nose and forehead and it was prone to accentuating dry skin when I used a brush to blend it but I switched to the Beauty Blender and it applied much more smoothly. Other than that I had no issues with the foundation and in fact, it looked flawless, especially on my inner cheeks where I have problems with large pores.
2) Champagne Dreams:
A little gift to me, from me (if you can't treat yourself on your birthday then when can you? *wink wink*) was the Vanish Flash Highlighting Stick in Champagne Flash. As you can see in the swatch photo, it's a true champagne shade and it's definitely the most intense cream highlighter I've tried as it has a frosty high-sheen finish.
Similarly to the foundation, it comes in a triangular tube which allows precise application and the tip of the triangle is great for highlighting smaller areas like the cupid's bow and the brow bone. The formula feels a little stiff in the bullet but it's not too stiff so it doesn't drag the skin when applying it, but it's also not too creamy either so it doesn't feel sticky. Once it's on the skin, the product warms up, is easy to blend and just melts into the skin beautifully.
If you like a blinding highlighter and you've been wanting to try a cream highlighter then this is a great option!
3) Sparkle:
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and the best way to embrace the sparkliest season of the year, in my opinion, is by wearing sparkly makeup. With that in mind, I've been loving the new Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow in Aura, a beautiful warm pink shade with flecks of iridescent lilac shimmer which catch the light beautifully and make my eyelids sparkle.
On first application, I was quite disappointed as the pigmentation was a lot sheerer than I expected, however, an extra one or two layers provides more colour payoff and it means that you can create subtle, daytime appropriate looks as well as a more dramatic one. The biggest question with glittery eyeshadows is whether or not fallout is an issue, but I personally didn't experience any fallout during application or throughout the day. All in all, I would definitely recommend it if you're a fan of glittery eyeshadows!
Have you tried any Hourglass products?
Love,
Cliona xx
