Weekend Morning Routine

My Weekend Morning Routine...

Self-care and slow living is an essential part of my daily routine to help ease my anxiety. On the weekends, I like to take my time getting up and I love carving out some time to relax and practice self-care so I feel good for the rest of the week. For today's post, I wanted to share my slow, relaxing, 'easy like Sunday morning' routine.

A Breakfast Treat...
I'm not a morning person at all and I can't function without my cup of tea first thing in the morning, haha, so breakfast is always first on my morning agenda. I'll always be envious of people who do workouts first thing in the morning, haha! Most weekends I stick to my regular breakfast, however, every now and then I like to treat myself to a croissant for breakfast. We get the frozen packet from Tesco that you bake at home and they're so nice with jam on them! Not only do they taste amazing, but they also fill the house with that heavenly smell of freshly baked pastries, it almost feels like I'm in a Parisian cafe - Ooh la la!

A Pamper Routine...
After breakfast, I begin my self-care routine which always starts off with a little pamper session. I usually go all out with my beauty routine on the weekends as there's no better feeling in the world than freshly washed hair and being scrubbed and moisturised from head to toe.

I wash my hair with my usual go-to shampoo and conditioner from Umberto Giannini and sometimes instead of conditioner I'll use a hair mask, but I don't currently have one on the go at the moment. Whilst I leave my conditioner or hair mask in for a few minutes, I usually reach for my Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub to give my skin some TLC. It gently exfoliates without causing irritation to my skin, it's an essential step in my routine to prevent my skin from becoming flaky, especially in the Winter months and plus it has the dreamiest scent that smells like maple syrup!

When I get out of the shower, I spritz the Dr Paw Paw It Does It All 7 In 1 Hair Treatment* to my damp hair before blow drying it. Ever since I was a kid I've had really knotty hair and it can be a nightmare trying to brush through all the tangles after I've washed it! So I love applying this to my damp hair to help detangle and this makes it a little easier to brush out the knots. Like their famous Original Balm (more on that in a minute!), it's a multi-functional product so it also offers heat protection and it helps smooth out uncontrollable frizz, making it a little easier to style my hair.

For skincare, I've been using my new Origins Original Skin Cleansing Jelly to cleanse. It's branded as a makeup removing cleanser but I love using it as my morning cleanse and my second cleanse in my evening routine. As the name suggests, it has a jelly-like consistency similar to the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser, it turns slightly milky when it comes into contact with water and it leaves my skin feeling silky soft. It has been added to my list of holy grail cleansers!

Sunday morning is the perfect time to treat the skin with a lovely face mask if you ask me. Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask has been my favourite treatment mask since I tried it last year as it leaves my skin looking brighter, feeling clarified and smooth. It's a go-to for me when my skin is looking a bit dull and congested and my foundation looks more flawless the next day too.

My lips need lots of care during the Winter and I've been using a selection of Dr Paw Paw products for the last few months that have been keeping my lips smooth and nourished. I like to use the lip scrub in their Scrub & Nourish 2 in 1 Lip Sugar Scrub & Balm* to buff away any dry patches I'm prone to getting during the cold weather and I follow up with the lip balm which leaves my lips feeling silky soft. It's so handy having a scrub and a lip balm in one little pot as it can easily be thrown into a small makeup bag for going on a night away or travel - it would be a lifesaver on a long haul flight as my lips always get so dry!

I always have at least one 'no makeup day' on the weekends but sometimes it's nice to pop on a bit of tinted lip balm or lip gloss. If I haven't used the balm from the Scrub & Nourish pot then I've been reaching for the Dr Paw Paw Red Sparkle Multipurpose Soothing Balm* which is sadly limited edition but the Ultimate Red Balm looks similar. This adds a subtle hint of colour and shimmer to the lips whilst leaving them feeling nourished - it's perfect for no makeup or minimal makeup days!

I've also been reaching for the Dr Paw Paw Original Balm* a lot lately. It's a multi-use balm that can be applied to the lips, nails or even the skin for things like sunburn and skin irritations so it's no wonder so many people love it! I've been applying it on my nails as I've started biting them and picking the skin around them again, so as you can imagine my nails are sore, irritated and in a poor condition. The balm soothes my sore nails, nourishes my cuticles and the skin around my nails, and the product dries quickly too so I can apply it throughout the day and carry on using my laptop or phone.

A Few Self-Care Activities...
After my little pamper session I like to continue the relaxation with my favourite relaxing, self-care activity: deep breathing and yoga. I follow Yoga With Adriene on Youtube and her yoga routines are the best! They're so easy to follow, I love her positive, encouraging and gentle aura and she creates monthly playlists with a good variety of the more 'intense' workout style yoga sequences as well as the relaxing, meditative ones which makes it easy to stick to a routine of regular yoga practice. I try to do yoga 5-6 times a week as I think daily practice is so important for me as it helps me feel more energised and less anxious.

I also love dedicating some time to reading in the mornings and even just 10 minutes of reading helps me ease my mind from worrying so I can get ready for the rest of the day. I'm currently enjoying the Harry Potter series and I'm on the chamber of secrets at the moment - I can't believe I've never read this series before, it's so magical!

What are your favourite weekend morning rituals?

Love,
Cliona xx
