A Few Goals For The New Year...


Following on from my 2019 highlights post I wanted to set myself a few new goals for the year and of course, share them here too. Honestly, I used to hate setting new years resolutions as I just found it too overwhelming to think of the whole year and preferred to just work on monthly goals. 

However, in the last few years, I've found it comforting to have a rough guide of what I want to achieve in the year but there's no pressure for me to achieve them. I actually really like my goals this year as I think they're quite relaxed and some of them are even just continuing on from last year as I found some of last year's goals really beneficial. 

Anyway, here are my goals for the year ahead and I'd love to know what your goals are down below!

1. Read 2 Books A Month:
Every year I set myself a reading goal on my Goodreads account and this year I've opted for 2 a month so 24 in total! I only managed to read 22 books last year which is a bit lower than what I'd normally read as I was in a bit of a reading slump towards the end of the year with reading so much for university (but it was worth it because my grades were really good!). However, I want to find a better balance this year to fit in some reading time whilst also maintaining good grades. I'm going to create a list of the 24 books I want to read this year so I know exactly what I want to read next after finishing each book.

2. Set aside time for hobbies and fitness:
So that brings me onto my next goal, setting aside time for hobbies and fitness. Towards the end of the year, I also let my hobbies and fitness slip because any spare time I had at home I was either doing college work, working on my blog or watching Christmas films *insert the monkey with his hands over his eyes emoji* 

I want to find a good balance again and dedicate time to yoga/workouts, reading as well as keeping up with blogging too. This month I'm doing 30 days of yoga which is helping me get back into a fitness routine again and I can't believe this is actually my fourth year doing it! 

I'd also really love to start running, it's something I've wanted to do for years but I definitely need to get some proper runners first and I've just put off doing it as I don't want to buy runners if I'm not going to stick to it. However, I thought the same thing when I bought my yoga mat and I've managed to stick to it for four years now! I did start running one summer a few years ago and I loved it but I stopped doing it because I didn't have proper shoes and I was getting blisters so I think in the summer I'll just buy some and give it a go and if I don't stick to it then I can still use the runners for walking/other exercises.

3. Pass my driving test:
I already mentioned in my 2019 highlights post that I have my driving test coming up this month and I'm so nervous, ahh! But this year my biggest goal is to finally pass my test however many attempts it takes me to pass!

4. Continue to push myself out of my comfort zone: 
I also said in that post that last year was a year of pushing myself out of my comfort zone and I want that to continue in 2020! I want to keep gently pushing myself out of my comfort zone and do more of the things that I want to do which anxiety stops me from doing. It's very challenging but I did so well last year and I'm ready for a few new challenges this year.

5. Lots more blogging:
Last year I decided to ditch the number goals for my blogging goals and just focus on creating content. I'm so much happier with my blog now and I get more excitement out of sharing content since I've stopped focusing so much on stats and figures. Of course, I still think they're important and it does make me happy when posts do well but I'm trying to not let numbers define me and my content, especially on Instagram! Speaking of Instagram, last year's goal was to focus more on creating blog content than Instagram which I want to do more of in 2020 too as well as continue sharing more lifestyle content and I'd like to post more spontaneously too! Overall, I just want to keep creating plenty of the type of content that I enjoy reading.

6. Be a bit more eco-friendly:
I think we're all getting more conscious of the environment and last year I made a few small changes like ditching plastic straws for metal ones and getting a keep cup. However, I want to make a few more changes this year including getting eco-friendly toothbrushes as I finally found an affordable set, trying some eco-friendly sanitary products, opting for glass skincare packaging over plastic when I can, reusable cotton pads and remember to bring my keep cup everywhere as even though I reduced the number of single-use cups last year there were still a good few times I was caught without it - my rule this year is no keep cup then no tea or coffee!
