2019 highlights

My 2019 Highlights...

The new year is a time for reflection and as we've just entered a new year and a new decade (how did that happen?!), I wanted to look back at the goals I set myself last year and to remind myself of how much I accomplished. I feel like overall 2019 was a really good year for me with lots of personal triumphs along the way. I have a few new year themed posts to go up within the next couple of weeks and I wanted to kick them off with my 2019 highlights...

1. Learning to drive:
My big goal for 2019 was to pass my driver theory test and start driving lessons and I'm so proud of myself for actually doing it and not giving up, haha. Even though I haven't done my practical test yet I'm still happy that I finished my EDT lessons and I pretty much know how to drive - all that's left to do is pass my test!

I've been an anxious person all my life so I was bound to be anxious about driving and throughout the almost 7 months that I've been driving I've gone through phases of feeling confident with it and times when I've been anxious about it. I have my test in less than two weeks so at the moment, I'm quite nervous about it but I'm working on revising the theory and getting lots of practice in to hopefully feel confident on the test day. But at the end of the day, I've put so much work into learning to drive between studying the theory, watching a lot of videos on YouTube and practised lots of driving. There was nothing more I could do to be prepared so all I can do is my best on the day and if I don't get it this time then there's always next time!

2. Becoming an aunty again:
I haven't said this online anywhere as I was just enjoying spending the time with my family but becoming an aunty to my beautiful nephew in October was one of the biggest highlights of my year so I wanted to share it in this post. In fact, becoming an aunty is one of the biggest highlights from this past decade and I'm so happy to have two beautiful nieces and a nephew now. We also had a gender reveal party which was so exciting too!

4. Seeing Swan Lake at the ballet:
I had some fun little adventures this year like my first outdoor cinema experience in the summer and spending a night at the Kilashee hotel but the highlight was seeing Swan Lake at the ballet in November. I've dreamed of going to the ballet for years to see Swan Lake and The Nutcracker so it was a dream come true to finally go this year. It was everything I dreamed of, such a magical night that makes me sad that I gave up ballet when I was younger. I'm making it a goal to see The Nutcracker this year and practice some ballet at home with the hope of going to classes one day!

5. Going back to college:
I've mentioned this here and there on my blog but I had to take medical leave from college for a year and this September I went back and I'm repeating the year. I found the first semester back quite tough to be honest as I had done a lot of the work but it actually worked out for the better as I've received better results so far, come back feeling a bit more confident about things and I like the people in my class and feel really comfortable with them - they're all so lovely!

6. Pushing myself out of my comfort zone:
Every year my goal is to push myself out of my comfort zone because I struggle with anxiety so staying in my comfort zone makes me feel safe and comfortable but it really hinders my day-to-day life. There are so many things I want to do but anxiety stops me from doing them and I just want to get to a place in my life where doing these things doesn't cause me so much worry. This year I took some good steps for really pushing myself out of my comfort zone and I definitely want that to continue in 2020!

What are your 2019 highlights?
